Texas Drivers Outraged That Shaboozey Shut Down A Dallas Bridge During Rush Hour To Shoot A Music Video

Shaboozey Big X the plug

If you shut down a major bridge in a metropolitan area for a music video, it better be good.

That’s how people in Dallas are feeling after they found out that their commute home on Tuesday was lengthened because Shaboozey had rented out the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge during the middle of rush hour. Why? He and rapper BixXthaPlug were shooting a music video for a new collaboration that the two artists apparently have coming out soon.

If you’re like me, I had no idea you could just… rent a bridge. But it’s apparently a real thing, and this specific incident was reportedly “permitted through the Office of Special Events” in Dallas, Texas. The music video shut down one entire side of the heavily-traveled bridge that connects the western part of the city to central Dallas. Of course, it’s not uncommon to shut down a street for a movie or television show, but they generally try to do it during non-peak hours… not rush hour in a city where traffic already is a nightmare.

Though at first Dallas residents had no idea what was the cause for the standstill traffic, footage posted to TikTok showing Shaboozey and BigXthaPlug singing along to their new song for the music video eventually made the origin of the traffic loud and clear:

On one hand, that’s a cool setting for a music video. On the other hand… do you really have to do it during rush hour? And in the middle of the week?

Those commuting across the bridge had their trip times lengthened tremendously, and though they probably got to catch a glimpse of the Grammy-nominated artist dancing and singing on the road, a stage, and a truck bed… does that really make up for the added drive time?

Here’s another view of the music video shoot that shut down the major roadway to and from Dallas:

And now, it’s my pleasure to introduce to you a mixture of ticked-off social media comments. Some already knew what the cause of traffic was and were livid, while others found out why their commute turned into a nightmare by coming across the videos online:

“That’s what this was?! Traffic was backed all the way up.”

“This should be illegal. We have enough traffic here in Dallas.”

“So that’s why I was late to work. Understood.”

“WHY not at 6 a.m. on a Sunday and NOT during work hours… created dead stop traffic.”

“I was trying to get to work and the one time I decided to take the bridge, they had it blocked off. Felt like this ruined peoples lives.”

“Need to know who looked at the permit and said, ‘Oh 3 p.m. in Dallas is a great time to block traffic.’”

I’ve got a feeling that some Dallas, Texas residents are going to expect this to be one of the best music videos of all time to make up for the trouble that it caused them…
