Why Megan Moroney Calls Herself the “Adopted Daughter” of This Country Star and His Wife

Modern country music is seemingly a family affair. While sometimes that family is blood (see Rhett Akins and Thomas Rhett), this is not always the case. Rising star Zach Top has playfully encouraged online conspiracy theories that he is the illegitimate son of “Chattahoochee” singer Alan Jackson. And recently, Megan Moroney stoked similar rumors that she is the offspring of Jelly Roll and BunnieXo. The “Am I Okay?” singer signed a comment on BunnieXo’s Instagram with the message, “Love, your daughter.” Moroney, 27, explained herself during a recent appearance on Taste of Country Nights.

Turns out, the explanation is a simple one. “Me and Bunnie, we’ve got a lot of long, blonde, hair — and one of the first times we met I was just like, ‘I’m your daughter,’ and they were like ‘Yep!’” said the ACM’s reigning New Female Artist of the Year. “So, I’m like their adopted daughter.”

According to The Columbus Dispatch, Jelly Roll and Moroney both played at the Buckeye Country Superfest 2025 in Ohio on June 21.

“I just love them. They’re the sweetest,” gushed Moroney about the “Need a Favor” singer and his wife. “Every time I see them, I just have the biggest smile on my face.”

Apparently, Jelly and Bunnie (real names: Jason and Alyssa DeFord) are in on the joke. The Dumb Blonde podcast host, 45, commented, “My sweet daughter, always so gorgeous,” on one of Moroney’s Instagram posts.

Megan Moroney Keeps It (Mostly) Carefree On Her New Album

Currently in the midst of her headlining Am I Okay? Tour, Megan Moroney recently dropped a new song. “6 Months Later” is an upbeat rebuke of an ex-lover’s drunken attempts at reconciliation.

The irresistibly catchy tune falls in line with the “more carefree, sassy and fun” vibe of her upcoming third album. “This next set of music is a lot happier than what you would expect, but I feel like that’s just where I’m at in life,” the “Tennessee Orange” songstress told Audacy’s Katie Neal. “I feel like for once I’m just chillin’, I love it.”

While Moroney hasn’t yet revealed the album’s title or release date, she has hinted that both are closer than we think. “Wait I think the album is written,” she teased in a June 21 X/Twitter post.
