Amanda Balionis divorce rumors: Everything we know about her relationship with NFL player

Amanda Balionis was briefly rumoured to be in a relationship with the world’s No. 2 golfer Rory McIlroy, sparking wild social media speculation and leaving fans wondering about the state of her marriage to ex-NFL quarterback Bryn Renner.

As rumours swirled during Rory McIlroy’s temporary separation from his wife Erica Stoll, golf fans speculated without solid proof that he might be romantically linked to Balionis. Their interaction during an interview at the RBC Canadian Open was interpreted by some as flirtatious.

Prior to this, at the Wells Fargo Championship, sharp-eyed observers noted Balionis wasn’t wearing her wedding ring during interviews or in an Instagram photo she posted. The 39-year-old broadcaster also fuelled speculation of a marital split after she reportedly changed her name on social media from “Amanda Balionis Renner” to simply “Amanda Balionis.”

However, the whispers of a fling between McIlroy and Balionis were quickly put to rest when McIlroy and Stoll reconciled and cancelled their divorce plans before the 2024 U. S. Open.

Shortly after McIlroy’s narrow loss at Pinehurst No. 2, he was seen enjoying a walk with his wife and daughter, Poppy.

Despite the rumors of separation, neither Balionis nor Renner has confirmed a split.

Amanda and Bryn got engaged in 2021 before they wed in 2022, and at the time Balionis was sporting a massive engagement ring.

On March 3, 2021, the sports reporter took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce their engagement.

“Hey @BrynRenner…forever sounds kinda perfect,” she wrote alongside a photo of the couple in which she showed off her ring.

Renner, like his wife Balionis, developed a passion for sports from a young age. He shone in basketball and baseball, but it was on the football pitch where he found his true calling.

Renner took his skills to the University of North Carolina, playing from 2009 to 2013. He stepped up as the Tar Heels’ starting quarterback in his redshirt sophomore year in 2011, a position he held until he left two years later.

After several impressive seasons at college level, Renner entered the 2014 NFL Draft, but wasn’t picked. The Denver Broncos signed the undrafted quarterback, only to release him a few months later in August of that year.

With little success in the NFL, Renner chose to sign with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League (AFL). Over the next few years, he had short spells with the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers, but never managed to secure a permanent spot in the league.

In 2017, Renner hung up his boots and turned his attention to coaching. He started off as a recruiting coordinator at Florida International University, quickly climbing the ladder to become the cornerbacks coach and eventually quarterbacks coach.

After his stint at FIU, Renner moved to San Diego, California, where he now coaches quarterbacks for the La Jolla High School football team.
