Canadian Country Singer Apologizes for Claiming America Is “The Best Country in the World” at Illinois Show

Josh Ross Sparks Controversy With Pro-USA Comments, Drawing Outrage From Canadian Fans - Country Now

While releasing his EP, Complicated, just last year, Josh Ross made a name for himself in country music thanks to hit songs like “Single Again” and “On a Different Night.” But like most country artists, Ross wanted to fully embrace the genre. And with Nashville the heart of country music, the singer packed up and moved from Canada to the United States. Although loving his time in America, the singer recently received a fair amount of backlash when he considered the United States the best country in the world.

The incident happened during his concert in Illinois on June 13th. While standing on stage, holding an American flag, Ross declared, “Fun fact real quick. I’m Canadian. You want to know the best fun fact? Is I moved to the best f******* country in the world and I love it very much. So thank you very much.”

Feeling the freedom running through his veins, Ross also led the audience in a chant of “USA.” Although not hurling any criticism at his home country, fans quickly jumped to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Josh Ross, I’m trying to understand how you think what you said is not offensive to Canada. US the best Country in the world? I guess you have no idea what is happening around you. I do wish you well.”

“Please don’t say you’re representing Canada! It’s embarrassing! Please stay in Nashville.”

“I’m a proud Canadian and feel lucky to live in beautiful Canada.”

Josh Ross Proud Of America And Canada

With comments stacking up against Ross and his comment, the country singer shared a personal message, apologizing for his comments. “Hey guys, I just wanted to jump on here and address the clip that’s going around from my performance at Tailgate N’ Tallboys. I’m sorry to anyone who is offended by what I said. I’m grateful I get to tour all over the world, and I feel like I’m always representing Canada no matter where I go. Born and raised in Canada, but have been living in Nashville for the 5+ hears.”

Having to explain how he was proud of America and Canada, Ross concluded, “I’m as proud of establishing myself in the U.S. as I am being Canadian. Both sides were not communicated in the clip that you guys are seeing, and I’m sorry that that wasn’t clear. Hope y’all have a good one. Bye.”

With Ross making his thoughts clear, fans still seemed split with comments reading, “You broke my heart. Yes, as Canadians we know how to apologize. But saying sorry doesn’t fix it. Your actions spoke volumes.” Another person declared, “Been away from Canada too long, forgot how to properly say sorry.”
