The airport was packed with people that evening. White lights reflected off the polished tile floor, the clatter of suitcases mingled with the frantic stream of flight announcements.

Mai stood leaning against a pillar, clutching the nameplate she’d hastily written. Actually, this wasn’t her job.

Her older sister—a company driver—had suddenly fallen ill, so Mai had to fill in. She’d never done this before, and was completely unfamiliar with such a luxurious environment.

“Just pick up the right people and take them to the hotel,” her sister had instructed.

When the car stopped in front of the hotel, he looked at the nameplate she had placed on the seat.

“Are you sure you’ve picked up the right person?” he asked.

Mai jumped. Her heart raced.

She checked her sister’s message again… then looked back at him.

A cold sensation ran down her spine.

She had made a mistake.

“I… I’m sorry,” Mai stammered. “I think I’ve picked up the wrong person.”

The man didn’t seem annoyed as she expected. On the contrary, he smiled slightly.

“Interesting,” he said. “So what do you plan to do next?”

Mai was flustered. “I… I can take you to the right place.”

He nodded. “Okay.”

On the way back, the atmosphere became lighter. Mai gradually calmed down, telling him about just helping her sister, about her normal work. The man listened—this time, really listened.

When they arrived, he got out of the car, then turned back.

“Where do you work?” he asked.

Mai gave him the name of the small coffee shop where she worked part-time.

He handed her a business card.

“Come see me tomorrow,” he said. “I think you might be a better fit for a job.”

Mai was stunned. “But… I picked up the wrong person.”

“Yes,” he nodded. “But how you handle your mistake is what matters.”

The next day, Mai was still hesitant. But then she decided to try.
