The afternoon rain poured down on the small street, making everything seem hurried and blurry in the water. Linh pulled her old coat closer to her, one hand holding her young son’s, the other clutching a bag of groceries she’d just bought for a simple dinner.

“I work as a waitress, sir.”

He nodded, then handed her another business card.

Linh hesitated. She wasn’t used to accepting help from strangers. But his sincere gaze made her nod.
