Released July 11, 2025, the DC Studios film finished ahead of animated hit KPop “Demon Hunters” and musical blockbuster “Wicked” in repeat viewing metrics. The superhero film received an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 on Letterboxd, with early reactions briefly pushing the score above 4.0 before it settled.
Many Letterboxd users reported watching the film more than 20 times, describing it as comforting and emotionally uplifting. The platform’s report noted that viewers praised the film’s hopeful tone and emotional warmth, with some calling it cut from the same cloth as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films in its sincerity and optimism.

Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the film marked the beginning of Gunn’s vision for DC Studios following his appointment as co-chairman alongside Peter Safran. Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor drew particular praise from viewers.
At the box office, “Superman” grossed $616.8 million worldwide against a reported $225 million production budget. The film has already secured a sequel currently in development.
Not all reactions were uniformly positive. Some viewers criticized the film’s visual style and what they perceived as crowded storytelling. However, the dominance in repeat viewings suggests strong long-term audience appeal beyond opening weekend numbers.

The Letterboxd data signals renewed interest in optimistic, character-driven superhero films following years of darker, more cynical approaches to the genre. As DC Studios moves forward under Gunn’s creative leadership, “Superman’s” performance both at the box office and in repeat viewings positions the studio for continued development of its interconnected universe.
Letterboxd’s 2025 year-in-review also named Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc and Sinners as the highest rated films on the platform, while Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey earned recognition as the most anticipated film for 2026.
