Zac Brown’s Ex-Wife Finally Speaks Out After His Engagement to Kendra Scott Goes Public

Well, that didn’t take long. Just 45 minutes after Zac Brown went public with his shiny new engagement to jewelry mogul Kendra Scott, his ex-wife Kelly Yazdi had a few things to say, and none of them were subtle.
In a reel posted to Instagram, Yazdi got straight to the point. “I’ve tried to move on in my life, but I can’t snap my fingers and get out of this lawsuit. Zac has forced me into litigation, so I have no choice but to defend myself against his circus,” she said, laying it out for the nine million-plus people who’ve been following her ongoing TikTok saga.
Zac Brown‘s legal battle with his ex has been heating up for months now. He filed a lawsuit back in May, claiming Yazdi broke a confidentiality agreement by sharing a poem online. It didn’t name him directly, but let’s be real, the shoe fit. The poem described a relationship masked as love, laced with manipulation and control, and it didn’t take a detective to connect the dots. Yazdi’s caption even mentioned surviving “narcissistic abuse,” a phrase that’s become central to this whole mess.
And now, while the country superstar is off celebrating love and flashing that massive pink diamond on Scott’s hand, Yazdi’s gearing up for a courtroom showdown. The jury trial is set for September 15 in Atlanta, and both parties are legally required to be there. “I can’t say I’m looking forward to our ‘reunion,’ but I am looking forward to putting this all behind me,” Yazdi said, making it crystal clear that she’s not exactly lighting candles for a peaceful resolution.
To make things even more eyebrow-raising, Yazdi put up a poll on her Instagram Story with the word “Coincidence?” and an eye-roll emoji, calling attention to the suspiciously close timing between her legal update and Brown’s engagement announcement. Petty? Maybe. On brand for a digital-age celebrity split? Absolutely.
Still, Yazdi drew a line in the sand when it came to Scott. “This is also not about Zac’s new fiancée. I will forever be a girls’ girl, and I wish her the best,” she wrote. But she couldn’t help adding a kicker: “I would just hope that it would be more important to Zac to focus on his new engagement versus trying to control his last… but here we are.”
This whole ordeal started back in August 2023, when Brown and Yazdi tied the knot and called it quits not long after. She says she was blindsided. He says she violated agreements. Then came the poem, the lawsuit, and now, the next chapter with engagement rings and all.
And if that weren’t enough drama for one country music soap opera, Yazdi’s counterclaims have only added fuel to the fire. She accused Brown and his band of using footage from their actual wedding in a music video for the song “Beautiful Drug,” even alleging that the band cast a look-alike actress to smear her image. That claim was dropped, but it left its mark in this public tug-of-war.
Brown, for his part, hasn’t said much since the engagement news dropped, but his legal team insists the suit is about protecting business and family matters. He’s maintained that the legal action is not about muzzling his ex, but rather about honoring past agreements made during her time with his company, Zac Brown Collective.
Whether the court agrees is a matter for September. For now, the headlines tell the tale. Zac’s moving forward, ring and all, while Yazdi’s determined not to let her voice be drowned out.
And in a world where reality TV and country ballads often blur together, this is the kind of real-life story that makes you wonder if the next Zac Brown Band album will be less beach vibes and more courtroom blues.
