“Don’t Do That”: Wife of Willie Nelson Blasts Media Outlet for Inaccurate Information

Who Is Willie Nelson's Wife? All About Annie D'Angelo

Willie Nelson’s music is a family affair. The outlaw country pioneer, 91, often tours with sons Lukas and Micah. His wife Annie D’Angelo, whom he married in 1991, is also a frequent business partner. Recently, D’Angelo took to Instagram to refute a media outlet’s claim that Lukas Nelson is his father’s primary caregiver.

“Don’t Do That”: Annie D’Angelo Says She Still Cares For Willie Nelson

On April 16, the music news outlet AXS TV shared a picture of Willie Nelson with wife Annie and son Lukas. The caption read, “Lukas Nelson takes pride in taking care of 91-yr-old dad, Willie Nelson & 63-yr-old mom, Annie D’Angelo. Lukas makes sure mom & dad are comfortable and living their best life after many long years of making rad music.”

It’s a very sweet sentiment—albeit wholly untrue, Annie D’Angelo says. In a comment, she took the outlet to task for spreading what she says is misinformation.

“Hey @axstv why would you take a photo from someone else’s feed (my friend @marthacasselbodell ) & then make stuff up?” D’Angelo wrote. “I still take care of my husband (Lukas has always been there for us as has his brother @particlekid ) and love it. Then you claim our incorrect ages. Don’t do that. Just ask.”

While Nelson is actually 91 years old, his wife is 68.

More About Annie D’Angelo

In the 1980s, Annie D’Angelo worked as a makeup artist on the set of movies like Bachelor Party and The Rosary Murders. That career path would eventually lead to her future husband, Willie Nelson. The couple met in 1986 on the set of the TV movie Stagecoach, starring Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash. At the time, D’Angelo was 30 years old, while Nelson was 53.

After welcoming their two sons, they married in 1991. In a 2023 interview with People, the “Always On My Mind” hitmaker affectionately referred to D’Angelo as “my pet rattler.”

“She’s my lover, my wife, nurse, doctor, bodyguard,” Nelson said.
