Darius Rucker Gets Down On One Knee, Proposes To Girlfriend Emily Deahl

Over the years, the frontman for Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, has had a few public relationships. Darius Rucker was formerly married to someone named Beth Leonard. They were together for 20 years before deciding to part ways in 2020. In Rucker’s book, Life’s Too Short, the country music singer revealed that his ex-wife was not at all at fault in the divorce.

In fact, he looked in the mirror and owned up to his shortcomings, as he explained in an interview:

“To realize how awful I was as a husband was hard to write. To realize she did everything she could. She’s so wonderful, she’s still an amazing human, amazing person. I love her so much. But I was just, a rockstar, and I lived that life. I wanted to tell the truth, but sometimes the truth sucks. It sucks for me and in writing about her, I just wanted the world to know that it was all me. She was awesome. It was all me.”

After his divorce, Rucker briefly dated comedian Kate Quigley, but that relationship did not last long, and the two parted ways in 2021.

Since then, Rucker has kept a low profile and focused on his career and raising his children. But after taking some time out of the dating field, Rucker shocked the internet when he hard-launched his new relationship last month.

So who is this new love interest? Her name is Emily Deahl, a 33-year-old content creator and former singer who also hails from the great state of South Carolina (Darius lived in Charleston before moving to London earlier this year).

Though she’s attempted to get into singing and songwriting, she’s more prominent as a social media personality, and has around 500,000 followers on her TikTok (to go with millions of likes). It’s unclear how the two met, but speculation about their potential relationship has been running rampant online, and there’s obviously that South Carolina connection between them.

But speculate no more… Darius Rucker made things official with this post:

“Wizard of Oz at The Sphere with my love and my boys.”

Many fans were quick to comment on the age gap of this relationship, given that Rucker is 59 years old.

Of course, people are quick to jump to conclusions that an age gap relationship will never last, but Rucker and Deahl are proving those skeptics wrong. While it’s unclear how long the two had been dating before Rucker publicly announced her as his girlfriend on social media, his use of “my love” to describe her suggests that it’s not a new relationship.

But no matter how long the two have been dating, when you know you know, and Rucker got down on one knee to ask Deahl to be his wife.

In an Instagram caption, Rucker expresses his love for his bride:

“Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I have never known. The day I met you I knew I didn’t want to go another one without you. Now I don’t have to.”

When the two made their relationship public, we joked here at Whiskey Riff that Darius Rucker… “only wants to be with Deahl.” Horrible joke we know… but congrats to the happy couple.
