27 people were injured and hospitalized in the terrible accident.
On May 26, 2025, the city of Liverpool was bustling with the atmosphere of celebrating the Premier League championship of Liverpool FC. Thousands of fans poured into the streets to join the parade to celebrate, turning the central streets red.
However, the joy quickly turned into tragedy when at around 6pm (local time), a grey car suddenly drove straight into the crowd on Water Street.
According to information from the police, the incident left at least 27 people injured and hospitalized, including 4 children. Worryingly, two victims, including a child, are in critical condition.
The driver of the car, a 53-year-old man residing in Liverpool, was arrested at the scene. Police said they were not looking for any other suspects and believed this was an isolated incident, unrelated to terrorism. However, the motive for the crime is still being investigated.

“Crazy car” crashes into parade crowd
Some witnesses at the scene said that before plowing into the crowd, the driver stopped the car, honked continuously, then reversed and suddenly accelerated. The car threw many people onto the hood, creating a scene of terrifying chaos. Fortunately, people quickly controlled the driver, avoiding further casualties.
Soon after, nearby restaurants and shops were requisitioned as makeshift medical stations to treat dozens of injured people, many of whom were covered in blood and bandaged on the spot. Security and medical forces were present in time to take the victims to the emergency room.
The news of the incident shocked the Liverpool fan community as well as the global sports world. NBA star LeBron James, who is also a minority shareholder of Liverpool FC, sent his condolences and prayers for the victims.
“My deepest thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the @LFC championship parade today! What a senseless act!”, James said.
Len Winsper, 55, told the Guardian: “People started banging on the windows, then smashing them. The driver panicked and stepped on the accelerator. Then he hit someone, who flew into the air, then he drove over the rest of the people. I have never seen anything like it.”
The authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the incident. Police have urged the public not to speculate or spread false information until an official announcement is made.
Meanwhile, all Liverpool fans and football lovers are hoping that the victims will recover soon, and that justice will be served.
