Tommy Fleetwood just had the best season of his career.

Fleetwood won his first PGA Tour event with a victory at the Tour Championship, and was an instrumental part of Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in New York, forming a historic partnership with Rory McIlroy.

The Englishman has carried that form into the fall season, winning the DP World India Championship in a star-studded field, which featured McIlroy, Shane Lowry, and a host of Ryder Cup stars.

It was a season where Fleetwood went from the nearly man of golf to an outright superstar. His stardom has grown so bright that even LeBron James was posting about his Tour Championship win.

Now that he’s finally gotten his first victory on the PGA Tour, many are starting to wonder what 2026 has in store for Fleetwood.

Fleetwood was well-suited to the narrow course at the India Championship, which allowed him to beat the likes of McIlroy on the way to his eighth DP World Tour win. But he didn’t have the same edge at Bethpage Black, which Keegan Bradley turned into a putting contest by shaving down the rough.

Still, he was one of the most effective European players in New York, as one of the most consistent ball strikers on the planet. US vice-captain Webb Simpson sang Fleetwood’s praises, putting his name among some of the greats in the game.

Speaking on Bible Caddie, he said, “I think he is right there with Rory. In terms of consistency, he might have been the most consistent player worldwide.

“We go from Bethpage, where the fairways are wide and the rough is short, to this golf course in India, which was extremely tight, and it took the weapon of Rory McIlroy, his driver, out of play a bit, so he wasn’t much of a factor, like you would expect him to be.

“But Tommy just hits it great. His putter is usually really strong. I think that has improved this second half of the season.

“So it’s really cool that Tommy was able to do that. It’s the best field that India has probably ever seen, so it’s pretty cool to see.

“He has had an awesome year, and I think we are going to continue to see Tommy Fleetwood’s name at the top moving forward over the next few years.”

The major Tommy Fleetwood is most likely to win in 2026

The big knock on Fleetwood’s 2025 season was his lack of competitiveness at major championships. His best finish was T16 at The Open Championship, and he didn’t make the cut at the US Open.

But recent form suggests he is ready to take the next step and claim his first major sooner rather than later, and his performance at the India Championship suggests he’s in good standing to win one of them in particular.

Fleetwood compared the India Championship course to Augusta National, due to its tree-lined fairways that give you limited options for how to play a hole. He succeeded in New Delhi because he remained patient and took what the course offered.

That’s an essential skill at Augusta National when trying to win The Masters. If you try to force good scores out of holes, then you can quickly play your way out of the tournament.

Instead, success at The Masters comes from intelligent course management, positioning yourself well not only off the tee, but also approaching the undulating greens, and making big putts in crucial moments. Fleetwood has shown he is adept in those areas in recent months.

So his best chance at winning a major in 2026 may well be his first chance, as Fleetwood prepares for his ninth visit to Augusta in April.
