Donald Trump suffers more golfing embarrassment after latest cheating scandal

U.S. president Donald Trump has sparked more golfing embarrassment after confusing Homeland Security Secretary Kriti Noem with professional women’s golfer Cristie Kerr.
The mix-up took place at the White House while Trump introduced members of his cabinet during a ceremony to launch a 2028 Summer Olympics task force.
When addressing his colleagues, the President announced: “Secretary of Homeland Security Cristie Kerr,” confusing a member of his cabinet office in Noem with the American LPGA star.
His latest golfing brainfade comes after video footage captured him cheating at golf, again, on his recent trip to Scotland to open a new course at Trump International Links.
It’s the most recent instalment of Trump colliding with the golfing world, and he hasn’t been doing himself many favours with fans of the sport.
He quickly caught his mistake at the White House.
Trump laughed: “Cristie Kerr, do you know who Cristie Kerr is? She’s a friend of mine – a great golfer.”
He then added to the room’s embarrassment, awkwardly stating: “Kristi Noem, she’s a better golfer than you, that’s the only thing – but you are better at a lot of other things.”
In response, the crowd conjured a chuckle, and Noem smiled, miming a golf swing in a light moment that helped ease the awkwardness over Trump’s latest golfing mishap.
Donald Trump’s latest mistake
At 79, Trump continues to face questions about his age and memory, the exact thing he ridiculed his predecessor, ex-president Joe Biden, for.
However, his supporters saw the moment as harmless and unscripted, not an example of Trump’s often questionable humour.
It follows Trump stating: “I didn’t get the privilege of an invite,” in an ill-thought-out response to questions over whether he was invited to Epstein’s Island on his visit to Scotland.
2028 Olympics Golf: Riviera Golf Club, Los Angeles
The mix-up from Trump may have grabbed headlines, but the day’s primary focus was the launch of the 2028 Olympic organising committee.
The president, who will serve as chair of the task force, introduced key members of the group, including Vice President J.D. Vance, as well as several other cabinet secretaries from government departments.
Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Nastia Liukin was also named as a member of the panel.
The task force now turns its attention to preparing Los Angeles to host the 2028 Summer Games, which will include golf events at the iconic Riviera Golf Club.
The venue has been home to three U.S. Opens and holds the Genesis Invitational annually.
It is scheduled to be the venue for the Women’s U.S. Open in 2026, two years before the Olympics in LA.
Riviera is known for its rich PGA history and idyllic Pacific backdrop, with planning for a ‘world-class’ Olympic event already in the making.
