The Legendary Jam Session With Toby Keith, Post Malone, and Seal Team Six

Toby Keith was just about as American as America itself. Prior to his passing, Keith was a staunch patriot and had an unwavering faith in his country, regardless of the socio-political climate. A number of his songs embody this attitude, including “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue” and “American Soldier”. However, Keith’s admirable dedication to his country wasn’t just words.

In addition to his songs, one of Toby Keith’s premier philanthropic endeavors entailed going on 11 different USO tours. During these tours, Keith would visit soldiers on base and in hospitals. He would play private performances for the military members present, too. Given his affinity for the country and its armed forces, Toby Keith once had a jam session with Post Malone and Seal Team Six following his birthday performance in Virginia Beach in 2016.

Unbeknownst to the general public, one other country artist who was with the group at the time was George Birge. Frankly, if it wasn’t for George Birge, the only evidence of this moment transpiring would be Malone’s X post, in which he wrote: “Remember that time when me and Toby Keith jammed on his bus on his birthday with Seal team 6?

“We were actually in Virginia Beach one night on [Keith’s] birthday and he was like, ‘All right boys, meet me at the bus after the show,’” Birge recalled in an interview with Taste of Country.

Birge and his boys waited for Keith to be finished. When he finally did, the night would then take a rather unforeseen turn.

“[Keith] was like, ‘All right, I want to introduce you to my friends,’” Birge told the publication. “‘Boys, this is Seal Team Six and this is Post Malone.’”

Following the introduction, they all climbed into Keith’s tour bus and played music until about four o’clock in the morning.

Given the privacy and intimacy of the setting, not many other details are known about this moment. Regardless of the details, the story still exists for Toby Keith fans and music historians everywhere. It also proves that Keith’s military support went beyond his music; rather, it was an ideal that Keith kept close to his heart and vocalized through his actions. Whether or not you liked his music or his beliefs, Toby Keith knew how to bring people together.
