The ‘Where the Green Grass Grows’ hitmaker is teasing new music on the horizon.

It looks like we might be in store for a new album from country legend Tim McGraw in 2026, with the ‘Where the Green Grass Grows’ hitmaker debuting a brand new song, ‘Different’, during his Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
It’s a soul-stirring offering that finds McGraw stepping into the kind-hearted, motivational shoes of fan-favourites such as ‘Humble and Kind’, ‘Undivided’ and ‘People Like Us’.
McGraw has a knack for tugging on our heartstrings a little harder than most artists, and this latest track, which is still unreleased as of yet, is a wonderful example of this.
It finds McGraw embodying a narrator who feels like an outsider, sprinkling in a handful of enigmatic details as the song progresses. He reveals that he is a Mama’s boy, a sensitive soul, and that he receives criticism from others because of his lifestyle.
McGraw admits he’s been bullied, while many denigrate his friendship circle as “whores and freaks”. Ultimately, the Louisiana native confides, he’s just a little different from the rest, and many people don’t seem to take a liking to him as a result of this.
Then, we get the gut-wrenching plot twist, as McGraw shares the name of our protagonist for the first time – Jesus. He then sets the scene, as he prepares to be sentenced to death on the cross because of his friend, Judas, (“My name is Jesus / I live in Galilee / There’s an angry crowd right now coming after me / You’ve never seen such fear / You’ve never seen such hate / And if I’m right, before tonight, I will be betrayed / With a kiss from another man / That’s how I’ll know I am different”).
The composition is relatively sparse, which lets the focus fall deservingly on the visceral narrative. In the caption, McGraw reflects on how important ‘Different’ is today, “In this world right now, this message has never been more relevant and true”.
Maxim’s Take:
“Without getting swept away, ‘Different’ feels like it has the potential to emulate the stratospheric trajectory of ‘Humble and Kind’, which remains one of McGraw’s most iconic hits. The ‘Wrong Ones’ crooner is at his best when he’s imparting some wisdom through his music, and if his 2023 Poet’s Resumé EP is anything to go by, it looks like his next studio album will feature a lot more warm philosophising.
McGraw has always made a concerted effort to infuse his faith into his music, and while some of his contemporaries deliver more overt declarations of belief, ‘Different’ showcases McGraw’s ability to convey his spirituality in a subtler, more impactful way.
For virtually all of ’Different’, you listen thinking McGraw is simply singing from the perspective of a downtrodden outcast, and in doing so, strikes a chord with the listener. Then, when he drops the plot twist and reveals whose perspective he’s singing from, it leaves the listener reflecting on how relatable Jesus’ struggles are in today’s world, as well as pondering how we can apply Jesus’ outlook to our own life”.

“I’m a single man, going on 33
Folks are probably wondering if there’s something wrong with me
‘Shouldn’t you be married by now? Find a nice girl and settle down’
God knows that kind of life ain’t on the cards for me
I’m not like most other men
I guess I’ve always been different
I was a Mama’s boy, kind of a sensitive kid
They say fight back like a man, but I never did
The other boys would bully me
I’d turn the other cheek
Always gentle, mild and meek
Some things you just can’t change, and I’ve always been this way, different
–
So do I make you nervous, just a little bit?
Would you want me as your neighbour?
Would you trust me with your kids?
Are you afraid of me because I’m not like you?
Is there any one of us who isn’t different
–
Some like to criticise the way I live my life
You see, I like my wine and I spend my time with a bunch of guys
I ain’t ashamed to admit, that some of my best friends
Live their lives and sometimes die out on the edge
You might call them whores and freaks
But they’re just like me, different
–
So do I make you nervous, just a little bit?
Could you love me as your neighbour?
Could you trust me with your kids?
Are you afraid of me because I’m not like you?
Is there any one of us who isn’t different
–
My name is Jesus
I live in Galilee
There’s an angry crowd right now coming after me
You’ve never seen such fear
You’ve never seen such hate
And if I’m right, before tonight, I will be betrayed
With a kiss from another man
That’s how I’ll know I am different
–
Whoa, I’m different
Won’t you know I am different
Different”
