David Muir interrupts World News Tonight to deliver tragic breaking news update
David Muir had the devastating job of telling viewers that a three-year-old child and their parents were killed when a tree fell on their car in East Ridge, Tennessee
David Muir had to interrupt the usual running of his ABC show to deliver a “deadly” breaking news update.
David, who was presenting World News Tonight, shared the tragic news that two parents and their three-year-old child were killed after severe weather struck Tennessee. The family was killed when a tree fell on their SUV. Another unrelated person was also reported to have died.

ABC reported that a state of emergency was called in Chattanooga with six inches of rain falling in a short period of time, making yesterday, “the second wettest day in that city’s history”. It comes after Muir issued a bombshell 4-word update to viewers as he stepped away from his desk on air.
Chattanooga’s mayor also announced that 35 people were rescued by swift water teams who worked throughout the night. The teams used dinghies to save people and their pets from their homes.
In the city, police said one man was swept away by floodwaters and was later found dead, after more than half a foot of rain fell in the area.
Calling it a “deadly 24 hours in the south”, Stephanie Ramos, reporting for ABC, told viewers that in East Ridge, authorities say a mother, father, and child were killed when a large tree fell on their SUV.
However, storms also appear to be coming into the north-east of the country, with Storm Erin heading for the East Coast, making it the first major hurricane of the season in the Atlantic. David further warned viewers that “rip currents will likely be a really big issue all along the East Coast” during this weather event.

The East Coast is also battling “record-breaking heat”, especially in Boston, with multiple firefighters being “treated for heat exhaustion” due to battling blazes in extreme weather.
Stephanie warned that there could be effects on travel, too, saying, “Flight delays and cancellations are mounting due to thunderstorms in the area that are likely to cause flash flooding.”
But this isn’t the first time recently that David has been forced to break news to the public, as he recently revealed information on the CDC shooting.
Authorities told ABC that Patrick Joseph White, 30, allegedly shot 150 windows at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta during his August 9 attack. He reportedly shot at the buildings due to believing the Covid-19 vaccine caused his depression and suicidal thoughts. Authorities have denied that the vaccine causes these symptoms, and White died by suicide at the scene.
