Rory McIlroy teases incredible Tiger Woods trick shot: “His body’s already banged up”
Masters champion Rory McIlroy revealed he filmed an incredible trick shot with Tiger Woods during a recent shoot for TaylorMade.
Rory McIlroy has revealed his equipment manufacturer recently forced him into an uncomfortable situation with Tiger Woods.
McIlroy tends to spend this time of year playing a few exhibition events and filming content with TaylorMade ahead of the new season.
Such was the case last week when McIlroy, 36, met with the 15-time major champion and other brand ambassadors.
The golfers are typically asked to do challenges with new equipment and film content with influencers that will be released in January.
McIlroy told a group of reporters in a call promoting next week’s Golf Channel Games that he was asked to hit a flop shot.
Not over a wall, but over the golf legend himself.
We’ve seen plenty of these shots before, mainly from Phil Mickelson, and every time the willing participant keeps a full set of teeth such is Lefty’s sorcery.
There are, of course, plenty of videos that go viral online when things go drastically wrong.
McIlroy obliged with the trick shot, but admitted he was “probably as nervous as I’ve been in a long time”.
“His body’s already banged up, I didn’t want to add to it,” McIlroy said. So how did it go? “He lived to tell the tale,” said McIlroy.
Well, we definitely look forward to seeing the clip.
Rory McIlroy and reigning world number one Scottie Scheffler will square off on December 17 in a new made-for-TV golf event.
McIlroy’s teammates are Shane Lowry, Haotong Li and European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.
Scheffler has selected his good buddy Sam Burns, Luke Clanton and Donald’s counterpart Keegan Bradley.
The inaugural event takes place at 7:30pm EST on 17 December at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida.
The format calls for a series of “rapid-fire” challenges. The teams will participate in:
A driver competition
A short game competition
14-club challenge
Timed shootout
Captain’s challenge
McIlroy said: “Scottie and I have been a part of some of these [made-for-TV] matches before, and you know, they’re great and hopefully they’ve provided some entertainment, but I just think this is an opportunity to do something different.
“Sort of lean into other sports in a way, like the NFL Combine, or the 3-Point Contest in basketball, or the Home Run Derby in baseball.
“It’s just a chance to try something new, try something different. And I think we’ve put together a collection of pretty good players, different personalities, different skillsets, and I think it’s going to be really cool to see us go up against each other in some of these different challenges.”
This is not the first time McIlroy and Scheffler have been involved in an exhibition match during the off-season.
Last December, the pair teamed up in The Showdown against LIV Golf recruits Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
The PGA Tour duo got the bragging rights, winning 2.5-0.5 and $10m.
