McIlory is only the 6th person to win all 4 majors
He also visited his homeland of Northern Ireland, landing at George Best Belfast City airport a few days after his victory.
The golfer is known for liking to keep his personal life private, but opened up about the emotional reunion with his mother.
Speaking in the US ahead of the Truist Championship on Wednesday afternoon, he stated: “I didn’t want any fanfare, I tried to keep it as private as possible.
“I just wanted to see my parents and the people that were closest to me. And we had a really nice two days. It was, you know, with my dad, like, I never get that emotional with my dad. It was great, it was great to see him.
“But then, you know, when I saw my mum we were both a mess for a few minutes. As an only child, I have a bond. I’m lucky and I know a lot of people feel this, that they have a close bond with their parents.
“And I think as time goes on, I’m getting a little older, I realise that they’re not going to be around forever. It means even more that they were still around to be able to see me complete the slam and fulfil those dreams.”

The world No 2 has had a busy time since claiming victory on the Augusta course, and is looking forward to returning to his usual routine.
Since winning the Masters, he has defended his Zurich Classic title alongside Shane Lowry, as well as completing substantial media duties in New York.
McIlroy is clearly relieved to be free from the ‘burden’ of pursuing a career Grand Slam.
The star is preparing for the upcoming US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, a place where the grand slam winner has triumphed four times before.
“I’m obviously going to feel more comfortable and a lot less pressure, and I’m also going back to a venue that I love,” McIlroy expressed about the upcoming major.
“It’s nothing but positive vibes going in there next week with what happened a few weeks ago and then with my history there and how well I’ve played at Quail.

“Yeah, it probably will feel a little bit different. I probably won’t be quite as on edge as I have been for the last few years when I’ve been at major championships.
“I’ll probably be a little bit better to be around for my family and I’ll be a little more relaxed. I think overall it will be a good thing.”
The Northern Irishman looks to take his second major of the year when the 2025 PGA Championship tees off in North Carolina on May 12.
