Rory McIlroy knows firsthand the complications of balancing a private life as a public figure. The golfer felt the tremors of the imbalance last Summer in the shocking reversal of divorce from Erica Stoll. However, it came with a faded silver lining that the Irish athlete recently highlighted.
In the Netflix documentary, Full Swing, Rory McIlroy shed some light on his struggles with harmonizing his career and family with aimed perfectionism. Speaking of his divorce, he wished for privacy, later acknowledging unachievability in his “line of work”. He further confessed to being protective of his family which may have been what led to his split. However, it brought him to reality to give his career appropriate attention.
I’ve always tried to be protective of my loved ones from people that have ill intentions. I think it was a wake-up call for me to say, ‘Let’s just focus on the golf for a little bit.’
Rory McIlroy shared
Rory McIlroy filed for a divorce from Erica Stoll last May after seven years of marriage. The two were also spotted in public without their wedding rings, further sparking tensions. By June, the couple confidently reconciled and put an end to their split. They are also parents to their 4-year-old daughter, Poppy McIlroy.
At the time, Rory McIlroy went on to explain his decision to call off the split with comprehension. Of the rumors running around, he also expressed his dejection. Furthermore, he shared that the couple had reflected on their future and decided on the best outcome. Since then the two have moved past challenges and worked towards a fresh start.
