The model remembered her late boyfriend with a tender clip as Liam’s family and fans marked one year since the singer’s tragic passing

Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy has shared her final moments with the late One Direction star in an emotional post marking one year since his death.

The singer died aged 31 in Buenos Aires on October 16 last year after falling from a hotel balcony.

In a TikTok post, to mark the anniversary Kate uploaded a light-hearted video taken during their last day together, showing the pair laughing as Liam tried to lift her into the air before collapsing into giggles.

“This video was taken during the last hour and last day Liam and I shared in this lifetime,” she wrote alongside the clip.

“I am forever grateful for the beautiful moments we shared. I will miss you for the rest of my life Liam.”

The 26-year-old also shared a black-and-white photo of the couple cuddled up in bed, followed by another picture of them embracing on a snowy getaway.

She wrote: “Today marks a full year without you here. I will forever hate goodbyes. I miss you Liam.’”

The anniversary has seen Payne’s family also post moving tributes.

His sister Ruth shared a childhood photo of Liam dressed as a pirate, writing: “1year, 12months, 52weeks, 365days… whichever way I say it, it still means the most heartbreaking truth that you’re not here any more.

“When you used to go away on tour, and l’d cry that you’d be gone for a while, I always knew you’d come back, but now I can’t get you home, I can’t meet up with you somewhere in the world, I can’t facetime or text to see how you’re doing, it’s an eternal homesick feeling because we can’t go back.”

She added that grief had left her “paralysed,” continuing: “I thought I had felt it before but I know the losses before you were just intense sadness, you are the loss of my life, the one person who l will miss at every single occasion in my life.

“I’d taken for granted that my little brother would be there through life, what a cruel lesson to learn in our 30s, that a sibling is not guaranteed to be a lifer, that I have to face this without you.”

Ruth concluded her post writing that Liam’s death “will never make sense” to her and revealed that she has a “reoccurring nightmare” reliving his final minutes in the hotel room.

Their sister Nicola described her brother’s death as “a pain that will never heal,” revealing that she continues to keep his memory alive for Liam’s eight-year-old son, Bear.

Nicola recalled the moment she learned of her brother’s death while watching a film with her daughter, Ffion: “A year ago today marks a date I never wanted to see again.

“The day our lives changed forever, and our hearts were left broken, with pieces missing.

“That night, unaware of what you were going through, that you were alone. Me and Ffion watching Dinosaur on the TV and me saying to her, next time we see Uncle Liam, he’ll be able to tell you all the dinosaurs, as he loves them,” she continued in a four-page Instagram post.

“I didn’t know that as those words left my lips, and the pictures I took of the dinosaur to show you, that still sit on my phone today, that there wouldn’t be a next time. There wouldn’t be that chance to do something so normal to everyone else. It would never happen for us.”

Payne’s ex-partner Cheryl, who shares eight-year-old son Bear with the late singer, has largely stayed out of the public eye since his death.

The night before the anniversary, she made only her second public appearance in a year, attending Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts’ 40th birthday celebrations.

Earlier this month, she supported Nicola at the gala night of Hadestown at London’s Lyric Theatre, where her friend and bandmate had joined the cast.

Last November she took part in a pre-recorded Girls Aloud interview for ITV, and earlier this summer she was announced as the new face of skincare brand Nivea, signalling a gradual return to public life.

One Direction star Payne died of multiple traumatic injuries, the opening of the UK inquest into his death heard.

The hearing, which Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court said was held on 17 December, was told it may take “some time” to establish how Payne died.

The inquest into Payne’s death in the UK has been adjourned until a pre-inquest review on 6 November, the coroner’s court said.

Five people have been charged in connection with his death.
