Jimmy Kimmel declares he’s ‘more popular’ than Donald Trump after new poll

As President Donald Trump mocks Jimmy Kimmel for his ratings, the late-night comedian has a number to show him.
In his Oct. 6 monologue, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host reacted to a new poll from YouGov that indicated he has a higher approval rating than the president. In the poll, Kimmel held a 44% favorable rating among respondents, compared to 41% for Trump. Kimmel’s unfavorable rating was 41%, while Trump’s was 54%, the poll also showed.
“I am more popular than the president of the United States,” Kimmel said. “You remember the guy who keeps saying I have no ratings? Well, that makes two of us.”
The comedian added that this is “nice,” but “considering the fact that I’m not a convicted felon friend of Jeffrey Epstein, and I’ve never paid off a porn star, sent a team of masked goons into a park to pull an old lady away from her grandchildren, I feel like my rating should be higher, maybe? At this point, finding a toenail in your salad has a seven point lead over Donald Trump.”
Kimmel also speculated that Trump “might be upset” about this and responded to a statement from the White House saying it’s “sad” that the comedian has poor ratings and “prays every night to garner a fraction of” the support that Trump has.
“You know what else is sad? That the president of the United States has a lower approval rating than Diddy and diarrhea,” Kimmel joked.
Kimmel is a longtime critic of Trump and has been as unsparing as usual in covering the president on his late-night show after returning to the air following his controversial suspension in September.
ABC suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for less than a week after FCC chair Brendan Carr appeared to threaten the network to take action over comments Kimmel made after the killing of Charlie Kirk. When Kimmel returned to the air, he decried the FCC chair’s comments as government censorship and said that Trump had tried to “cancel” him.
Trump initially celebrated news of Kimmel’s suspension and then decried ABC’s decision to bring him back. In a Truth Social post on Sept. 23, the president said he “can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back” and threatened a lawsuit against the network. “I think we’re going to test ABC out on this,” he wrote. “Let’s see how we do.”
Kimmel has made Trump’s approval rating a punchline in numerous recent monologues in response to the president mocking his viewership.
“He does know bad ratings,” the comedian said in his Sept. 24 monologue. “He has some of the worst ratings any president has ever had.”
During a late-night crossover where Kimmel and “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert appeared on each other’s shows, Kimmel also slammed Trump for celebrating his suspension.
“I never even imagined there would ever be a situation in which the president of our country was celebrating hundreds of Americans losing their jobs, somebody who took pleasure in that,” he said. “That, to me, is the absolute opposite of what a leader of this country is supposed to be.”
