Carrie Underwood Reportedly ‘Jealous’ of Taylor Swift & Thinks She’s a Sellout—Inside Their Secret Feud

As well as things are going for Taylor Swift in her personal life—her romance with Travis Kelce seems to be going as well as possible—there always seems to be some drama surrounding the superstar singer. These days, that drama seems to have something to do with an old-time feud, or at least, a rumored one, with Carrie Underwood.

Underwood, who is now a judge on American Idol, has recently been in the spotlight not just for her return to the singing competition that turned her into a star but for the fact that she performed at the Inauguration of President Donald Trump. This proved to be a controversial decision that alienated many of her fans and was seen as her aligning herself with the MAGA cause. But now, the Daily Mail is reporting the whole thing might have been less about President Trump and more about Taylor Swift.

But what happened with Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood? Is there a history of a feud between them? And how could Underwood’s decision to perform at President Trump’s Inauguration have anything to do with Swift? Well, insiders told the Daily Mail that, “Some people close to Taylor think Carrie took the Trump inauguration gig to spite Taylor,” adding that, “They’ve had a little bad blood in the past and Taylor famously endorsed Kamala Harris.”

“Some people in the industry do think this is Carrie’s way of marking her territory as “Miss Americana” as her side of the political aisle won the election.”

It might sound a little ridiculous, but there’s more proof to the story than just what the outlet reported. Just days ago, on her role as a judge on American Idol, Underwood compared a contestant to Swift, saying she had a “Taylor Swift-esque quality” in a way that wasn’t exactly flattering. “She doesn’t have this giant vibrato, belty voice, but there’s something in there,” Underwood said.

“Carrie has been waiting for the moment to throw some subtle shade, but this was not that subtle,” An insider told the Daily Mail about that comment. “There was no reason to compare this girl to Taylor.”

The outlet also reported that the feud is rooted in Underwood’s belief that Swift abandoned country for a more lucrative career in pop.  “Carrie feels that Taylor truly sold out going from country to pop. She’s held onto some jealousy about it,” the Daily Mail said. And Underwood certainly has a long history of throwing shade at Swift in the past, often in public—including a few times while hosting the Country Music Awards.

Swift was once asked about one of Underwood’s jokes—about Connor Kennedy—during an interview with The New York Times Magazine, in 2012, and responded with “[the cameras] don’t pan to you if you’re not laughing,” making it clear she did not appreciate the joke.

Underwood has also taken obvious swipes at Swift, as when she told People she wasn’t interested in having a friend group like the singer had, “I don’t even know squad. Like a posse? I have people I hang out with. My friends are normal people – one’s a baker and the other is a stay-at-home mom.”

The two stars are also very much on different sides of the political aisle, as Underwood’s performance at President Trump’s Inauguration proves. Swift endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden before her. In this day and age, that on top of everyone else is probably enough to ensure two people who already didn’t get along never find something to talk about.
