Morgan Wallen is tops in country music lately. People naturally gravitate to his music and concerts. He just seems to be tapping into the country music zeitgeist all the time. Which brings me to the subject of who is the reigning King of Country Music.

Is it someone with a stellar, decades-long career like George Strait? Or a relative newcomer like Wallen with surging popularity and record sales to prove it? Fans can barely wait for Wallen’s upcoming album to drop in mid-May. It looks like the charismatic “I’m The Problem” singer is set to unseat Strait for the rights to the throne.

A couple of years back, HARDY weighed in on this debate. He is staunchly in the Wallen camp on this question. Per Holler, “I would say right now the King is Morgan Wallen because nobody’s selling more tickets than him.” HARDY does acknowledge, however, that Strait has had a lasting impact on the genre and his contributions to it are numerous and impressive.

Per the outlet, HARDY said, “‘Notoriously, the King is George Strait,’” with the genre-blending maverick tipping his cap to Strait on a number of his tracks, including his HIXTAPE Vol. 2 stand-out, ‘WD-40 4WD.’”

He Mentioned Some Of His Other Favorite Country Singers

HARDY has some singers that he considers standouts. They include the inimitable Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone. Back in 2023, he felt that Parton was the Queen of Country Music and Cyrus was his hoped-for duet partner. As for Malone, at that time, HARDY wanted to get together with him for a song.

That aspiration finally came true. They did a song called “Hide My Gun” which appeared on Malone’s album, F-1Trillion. The two also performed together at the CMA Awards in 2023.

One great thing about country music is that longtime stars can co-exist with dynamic up-and-comers. There is always loads of room under the tent for everyone. So whether you love George Strait or Morgan Wallen, you don’t really have to choose between them. Both are amazing.
