EU, Russia simultaneously ‘invite’ Elon Musk after rift with Mr. Trump

Former Russian President Medvedev affirmed that Moscow is “ready to mediate” between Mr. Trump and Elon Musk, while the EU openly invited Musk to invest in Europe.

Russia, EU take advantage of ‘inviting’ billionaire Elon Musk to do business after rift with Mr. Trump

According to Reuters , the public confrontation between US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk has become a particularly interesting topic in Moscow. While the Russian media has ridiculed it as a “legacy of modern American political culture”, many Russian officials have taken the opportunity to make unexpected offers.

“Don’t be sad, Elon!” Senator Dmitry Rogozin, a former head of Russia’s space program and a nationalist politician, wrote on Musk’s own X platform. “If you encounter insurmountable difficulties in the United States, come to us. In Russia, you will have reliable comrades and absolute freedom in technological innovation.”

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council, also quickly joined in with a humorous comment: “We are ready to mediate between D and E for a reasonable fee. It can be paid in Starlink shares. Stop fighting!”

The war of words between the White House owner and the world’s richest billionaire has become a “delicious bait” for Russian politicians, who often show interest in the instability in Washington.

Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT and one of the most powerful figures in Russian state media, also did not miss the opportunity to quip: “This is modern American political culture. Like the British Industrial Revolution. But in reverse.”

Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), who has proposed working with Musk on missions to Mars, also joined in the fun. On X, he wrote, “Why can’t we just get along?” and then asked the AI bot Grok how Trump and Musk could reconcile.

When asked about the argument that is causing a storm of public opinion in the US, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov remained cautious, saying that this was an internal US matter.

However, he emphasized his confidence in Mr. Trump’s ability to handle the situation: “Every president has to deal with a myriad of different things, some important, some less important, and Mr. Trump will certainly handle it.”

Some hardliners in Russia also see this as an opportunity for Moscow to increase its influence while the US is distracted.

Meanwhile, AFP news agency reported that at the European Commission’s press conference on June 6, when asked whether Elon Musk intended to move his business or establish a new company in the European Union (EU), spokeswoman Paula Pinho humorously replied: “He will always be welcome.”

Thomas Regnier, the Commission’s technology spokesman, offered a clearer policy statement: “We welcome everyone who wants to start a business and expand in the EU. That is the core objective of the Choose Europe initiative.”

On the other hand, the atmosphere in Washington was less friendly. According to Reuters , a White House official revealed the same day that President Donald Trump had no plans to contact or talk to Elon Musk, despite rumors that the two would talk by phone today.

“No calls are scheduled,” the official said.
