Elon Musk recently announced on his podcast about a “flying car” version by the end of 2025.
In his latest appearance on comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast on October 31, billionaire Elon Musk once again made waves in the technology world when he announced that he plans to demo a “flying car” prototype before the end of 2025.

Will there be a flying car demo from Tesla later this year?
This isn’t the first time Elon Musk has talked about his flying car dream (he’s been talking about it since at least 2014). The promise came when Rogan asked about the status of the second-generation Tesla Roadster, a sports car that has been promised for years but has repeatedly missed its original 2020 launch date.
After a long pause, Musk said: “We’re getting closer to… the prototype demonstration. One thing I can guarantee is that this product demo will be unforgettable. Unforgettable.”
To Rogan’s confusion, Musk finally revealed the nature of the car, implicitly confirming that it was capable of flying: “It has crazy technology… Like, is it a car? I’m not sure. It looks like a car,” Musk said. “Let’s put it this way. It’s crazier than anything James Bond… if you took all of James Bond’s cars and combined them, it would be crazier.”
However, billionaire Musk’s promise was immediately met with great skepticism from observers. The Tesla CEO has a long history of “launching” ambitious ideas and prototypes that have failed to come to fruition.
Many remember the idea of the Hyperloop, which eventually “shrunken down” to a Loop tunnel in Las Vegas, where regular Tesla cars travel at slow speeds with human drivers. Or the autonomous two-seat Cybercab, which has been demoed for over a year but has yet to see a release date.
The “flying car” itself faces enormous legal and technical challenges. Any vehicle that carries passengers in the air requires a licensed pilot. Even if it is an autonomous vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicle—which is what many “flying cars” are supposed to be—it will face logistical and air traffic control issues.

Will Elon Musk’s flying car idea come true?
The billionaire stressed that he “hopes” to launch it “before the end of the year.” The question is: Is this a real technological revolution, or just a flashy display to distract from Tesla’s struggling car sales?
