‘As long as his father doesn’t show up…’ Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods invited to coveted golf event
Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods has been invited to compete in the Northeast Amateur from 18-21 June, a golf tournament steeped in history and previously won by some of the world’s best.

Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods has been invited to participate in the coveted Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island from 18-21 June.
Charlie Woods, who won his first AJGA event two weeks ago at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, has this week been handed an invite by Northeast Amateur co-chair Mick Hogan.
The Northeast Amateur was first established in 1962 and it has been won by a number of the world’s best players, including major champions Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and David Duval, as well as former World No.1 and European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.
The prestigious event marks one of seven on the Elite Amateur Golf Series this season.
Should Charlie, 16, accept the invite then Hogan considers his participation will heavily “elevate” the tournament.
“From a field standpoint, Charlie, look, great victory a couple weeks ago. Does his ranking really improve the strength of field? I wouldn’t say it does in any sort of major way, but what it would do from a tournament perspective then it will certainly elevate things,” said Hogan.
“He’ll probably be arguably the biggest draw to come that week. We’ll wait and see what happens if it does come through, it could be an unbelievable week for everybody because I think we’d have a lot of turn out.
“A lot of eyes on the event and not just on Charlie. Everyone else in the field. We’ll see what happens.”
Tournament operations shouldn’t be affected too significantly if Charlie does accept the invitation.
But they might be if Charlie’s father in 15-time major champion Tiger Woods rocks up in Rhode Island.
“As long as his father doesn’t show up,” joked Hogan.
“We haven’t gotten that far in advance but if he does show up on his own, we’ll do anything we can just like everybody else in the field to make this week special.
“We’ll find out from him what he needs from us and take it from there.”

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus last weekend urged Tiger to make sure his son Charlie continues to play golf for the right reasons.
Woods, 49, is still recovering from recent surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The former World No.1 is out for the remainder of the season and is expected to return in early 2026.
By then he will be eligible to compete on the over 50s PGA Tour Champions should he wish.
Woods’ Sun Day Red apparel and footwear company this week unveiled a new collection ahead of the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
