‘American Idol’ To Air Special Easter Episode With Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll and More
American Idol is planning something special for their Easter episode. The popular TV show will air a Songs of Faith episode on Sunday, April 20. The entire show will include spiritual songs, sung by the three judges, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, plus Jelly Roll, Brandon Lake, CeCe Winans, Roman Collins and The Brown Four.
The Easter episode will be three hours long, and also include spiritual songs by the remaining 20 contestants on the show.
Jelly Roll and Lake will likely do their “Hard Fought Hallelujah” duet, out now. The “Liar” singer has no problems sharing his faith, especially in music.
“I think it’s our jobs in faith to push that envelope,” Jelly Roll tells K-Love. “Those conversations need to be created. I can tell you what’s also happening is, millions of people like me are finding a safe place right now in God. I’m getting messages like, ‘I’m a fence-riding Christian too and I kind of believe. You make me feel safe talking about God again.’”
It’s fitting that Jelly Roll is singing on American Idol, since he is serving as the Artist-in-Residence this season.
Carrie Underwood on ‘American Idol’
Underwood is enjoying a career first on American Idol, as she celebrates her inaugural season as a judge. The role allows her to impart on the contestants all that she has learned since winning season 4 of Idol 20 years ago, in 2005. The mother of two admits she had no idea how much talent would be on her first season.
“I was nervous coming in because it’s a different ballgame,” Underwood says on Audacy’s Superstar Power Hour. “Sitting on the other side of the table, more than anything, I want to help all of these people coming through, and help them become better performers and live their dreams. So I want to be constructive and tell them things they can work on. But then you’re like, ‘Am I coming across mean?’. Or, ‘How is it gonna turn out?’ I’m really happy getting to watch the first little bits of it.”
“There’s so much talent,” she adds. “It’s kind of insane how gifted some of these people are.”
The Songs of Faith episode of American Idol will air on April 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
