Golf interviewer Amanda Balionis has been touched by the wave of fan support amidst demands for her dismissal from CBS following the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge controversy.

The 38-year-old faced criticism for her Saturday CBS interview with Rickie Fowler at the Charles Schwab Challenge and was also scrutinized for what some perceived as a jab at Rory McIlroy during her PGA Championship chat with Bryson DeChambeau.

Yet, Balionis wasn’t about to take it lying down. She hit back hard, reinforcing her stance on the responsibilities that come with interviews in an Instagram Story. Despite the clamor for her firing, Balionis found herself buoyed by a flood of supportive messages from fans on social media.

Expressing gratitude, Balionis took to Instagram to thank her followers, posting alongside a D.J. Khalid meme that read, “I appreciate you,” and sharing: “[I] also did not expect so many amazing messages after my trolling story… Thanks for the reminder that this place can be full of amazing and positive people.”

Her resilience is evident as she previously confronted online trolls head-on with a detailed Instagram post, acknowledging the strain of dealing with anonymous vitriol. “You’re always going to be ‘too something’ for somebody,” she remarked at the time.

“It’s a lot easier to be yourself and figure out what feedback is actually worth listening to (spoiler: it’s never the trolls you don’t know) rather than trying to be what everyone else wants. Nobody wants the same thing and you’ll end up turning yourself into an unrecognizable pretzel. Okay that’s all. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk that absolutely nobody asked for.”

In golf news, Benjamin Griffin claimed victory at the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge. Ending with a 12-under par despite a one-over 72 in his final round, Griffin navigated through tough winds to clinch his second PGA Tour title.

The talented golfer from North Carolina, who briefly stepped away from golf in 2018 only to return in 2021, has seen an incredible upswing in his career. Grateful for the support he has received, Griffin remarked, “So many people to thank, so many people in my corner, I’m very blessed,”.

Downplaying the challenge of his sport, he joked, “Yeah, there’s nothing to this game. It’s easy,” then reflecting on his recent rise, “Yeah, it’s crazy. Up until last week I had never made a cut in a major. Finished eighth at the PGA. Had a real good chance there to even finish solo runner-up. Was within a few of Scottie [Scheffler] going into the back nine.”

Reflecting on his journey, Griffin acknowledged, “It’s crazy how fast things can change in this game. Even going back to when I didn’t have any status on any sort of tours, getting onto the Korn Ferry Tour. I mean, it’s a bunch of stepping stones that kind of gets you to the next part of your career. Now I’m at the point where I feel like I’m starting to show that I am an elite golfer. I can compete against the best.”

He also said: “I didn’t redeem myself for anything, but definitely validation,”. “It’s really nice to get the validation. Some weeks you get validation with a top 10. Some weeks it’s the top five. Some weeks maybe it’s a made cut if you are grinding through something and it’s a challenging course, but winning is an incredible feeling.

“Words can’t really describe what it feels like to be the last man standing on 18, an incredible feeling, something I’ve gotten to soak in twice in the last month. It’s one that I want to keep feeling.”
