After interviewing Scottie Scheffler post-win, CBS golf correspondent Amanda Balionis extended an apologetic nod to Scheffler’s young son following a lighthearted moment involving a diaper mishap.

The victorious Scheffler, 28, echoed the prowess of Tiger Woods as he retained his title at the Memorial Tournament over the weekend, sealing his second PGA Tour victory within just weeks after triumphing at the PGA Championship last month. In a heartfelt exchange at Muirfield Village Golf Club, an emotional Scheffler opened up to Balionis about Meredith, his high school love and now wife, and the mother of their one-year-old son, Bennett.

Yet, before Scheffler could delve into details during the interview, little Bennett experienced an unfortunate incident.

“He has poop all over his back,” the concerned mother, Meredith, informed her husband. Scheffler quipped back with a light-hearted “That’ll happen.” But the mishap didn’t stay hidden as the toddler’s brown-stained embarrassment became visible with the golf star holding Bennett during the interview with Balionis.

After posting a photo of the chat on Instagram, the CBS reporter humorously apologized to the young Scheffler. “Sorry Bennett about posting your blowout… mom and dad can use this as blackmail when you’re older,” she wrote, adding some humor to the situation.

Balionis also celebrated Scheffler’s achievements, acknowledging his firm standing as world No. 1 and his strong start to the 2025 season. “Scottie joins Tiger Woods as the only other player in @memorialgolf history to successfully defend their title,” she wrote, accompanying the caption with images of both Scheffler and his son Bennett.

“World Number 1 is the 4th fastest player in history to reach 16 wins behind just Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Scottie has also now successfully converted NINE consecutive outright 54-hole leads.

“That’s second only to Tiger (who did it an unfathomable 36 consecutive times when holding the outright 54-hole lead). I don’t know guys. He’s just really freaking good okay?!”

Scheffler clinched the victory by a comfortable four-shot margin, earning him the label “ruthless” from his competitors. “It’s pretty cool,” Scheffler reflected on his triumph.

“It’s always a hard week. It’s so challenging to play this tournament. Ben made things interesting down the stretch. Overall, it was a great week.”

Balionis delved into Scheffler’s personal life during their post-victory interview, drawing parallels with Barbara Nicklaus’s role in her husband’s career. “Watching you and Meredith and Bennett, it makes me think – we’ve been talking about Barbara Nicklaus all week this week and how she made so much of Jack’s career possible with her support,” she said.

“Talk about what this balance looks like and the support Meredith provides that allows you to be the best father, husband you can be while also being the number one player in the world.”

Scheffler humorously responded to Balionis’s emotional probing, saying, “You’re really trying to make me emotional now,” which sparked laughter between them.

“I mean, my wife is my biggest supporter,” he continued. “She’s my best friend, and this is our life out here on the road. It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve had some special memories at this tournament. Yeah, definitely couldn’t do it without her.”
