Last week, Tesla shareholders approved a $1 trillion compensation package for the electric car company’s CEO, Elon Musk, who is currently the richest man on the planet.

If Mr. Musk leads Tesla to achieve the capitalization and profit targets in the above compensation package, within the next decade, he will become the first person in the world to reach the trillion-dollar asset mark.

Musk now has a net worth of $449 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. If his fortune reaches $1 trillion, it would be a fortune that would be difficult to spend in a single lifetime.

According to a 2020 estimate by Jerry Pacheco of the media company KRWG, if you spend $40 every second, it would take 289 days to spend $1 billion. At $1 trillion and at that rate, it would take 792.5 years to spend it all.

According to CNN Money, here are some things Mr. Musk could buy if he became a “trillion dollar” billionaire:

1,428 Baseball player Shohei Ohtani at his peak: Ohtani, considered the greatest baseball player of all time, won a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers.

All cars sold in the US this year: According to a forecast by Cox Automotive in September, new car market sales in the US could reach 16.1 million vehicles in 2025.

10,000 CEOs of Starbucks coffee chain: Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol is paid nearly 100 million USD/year.

333 Skyscrapers: JPMorgan Chase’s headquarters on Park Avenue, New York, cost $3 billion. $1 trillion could buy 333 such buildings.

Billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 2,000 yachts: The 127-meter yacht Koru owned by Mr. Bezos, the world’s third richest man, is worth $500 million. However, owning such a yacht also requires $25 million in maintenance and operating costs each year.

465 Icon of the Seas ships: This is the largest cruise ship in the world, and the number of such ships is equal to the number of ships in the US Navy.

The entire group of prestigious American Ivy League universities: The total value of the endowments of the 8 most famous American universities – commonly known as the Ivy League group – is about 200 billion USD.

A $2,923 bonus for every person in the US: According to the US Census, the US population in 2025 is more than 342 million people. The amount of $1 trillion is enough to give every American a sum of $2,923.

Total Swiss economy: Switzerland’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 is approximately $900 billion.

All homes in Hawaii: There are 572,781 homes in Hawaii, according to real estate site Zillow. The average price of each home is $826,575.

Coca-Cola adds a 12-pack of Coke to every person on Earth: Coca-Cola’s market capitalization is about $300 billion, and that’s still enough money left over to buy 8.2 billion people on Earth a 12-pack of Coke.

All of Toyota, Volkswagen, Stellantis, Hyundai, Ford, and GM: $1 trillion would be enough to buy them all if you count their market capitalizations.

The three largest US oil companies ExxonMobil, Chevron and ConocoPhillips: The total market capitalization of these three companies is currently around 920 billion USD.
