It’s a great place to pick up your maiden PGA Tour victory, as the win comes with a $4 million check and a congratulatory handshake from none other than Tiger Woods.

Woods, who hosts the Genesis Invitational every year, watched Bridgeman take down Rory McIlroy on the 18th hole, and he was the first to congratulate the 26-year-old on his life-changing win. After the round, Bridgeman revealed what Woods told him in that mesmerizing moment.

In a moment he won’t soon forget, Bridgeman had the opportunity to shake Woods’ hand and speak with the 15-time major champion following his victory at the Genesis Invitational. In typical Woods fashion, he poked fun at himself while telling Bridgeman what it means to win at an iconic venue like Riviera.

“I don’t know what he said when I first walked up the hill. But walking down the hill, he was saying how amazing it was walking down and seeing the amphitheater, all the people, how amazing the 18th hole is here, and how cool it is to win here. And he said, ‘You got one me.’ So I guess he’s never won,” Bridgeman told reporters on Sunday, per Golf Digest.

“I got one thing. He’s got all the other ones, but I’ve got one.”

It’s surprising to think back on Woods’ career knowing he never won at Riviera Country Club. The golf legend made his PGA Tour debut at Riviera in 1992 and hosts the Genesis Invitational because he loves the golf course so much, but he never won there in 15 career starts.

But Woods isn’t the only one. Jack Nicklaus, McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and other superstars have never lifted a trophy at Riviera Country Club, but Bridgeman has.

Bridgeman Was Nervous Closing out the Genesis Invitational in Front of Woods

Tiger Woods and Jacob Bridgeman

GettyTiger Woods’ presence made it tough for Jacob Bridgeman to close out his first PGA Tour win.

Bridgeman walked to the 18th tee box with a one-stroke lead on Sunday afternoon. A par was all he needed to secure his maiden PGA Tour win. That seemed like a guarantee after he hit the fairway and put his approach shot 19 feet away from the hole, but the nerves arrived when Bridgeman walked up to the green and saw Woods in a sea of hundreds of fans.

With the pressure ramping up, Bridgeman left his birdie putt nearly four feet short and needed to make a knee-knocker to close out the win. Thankfully for the rising star, he drained the par putt and let out a big sigh of relief.

“Knowing he was the one to be waiting to shake the winner’s hand made it definitely a little bit more nerve-racking just because when I was growing up, my youngest golf memory was watching him on TV. When he was in his prime, I was learning to talk and walk and play golf,” Bridgeman said.

“He’s the best player of all time by far. I think some of the things that he’s done on the golf course are incredible, will never be beaten. I’m still kind of in awe of him, and if you ever wanted to pass some time, just look up some Tiger Woods highlights, it’s pretty incredible.”

After growing up on Tiger highlights, Bridgeman is starting to put together an impressive highlight reel of his own.
