It’s fair to say Kid Rock’s health shows in his appearance following years of substance abuse and poor diet from his rock and roll days.

The 55-year-old rocker’s looks were brought under scrutiny last month when he appeared alongside Robert F Kennedy for a new MAHA campaign video, where the pair pumped iron, drank “whole” milk and showed off their physiques.

Trolls were quick to point out that Kid wasn’t the best advocate for a health campaign, considering his past poor lifestyle choices, which range from taking drugs, excessive drinking and smoking cigarettes and cigars. In a 2011 interview with Men’s Journal, Kid, born Robert James Ritchie, described the challenge of scaling back his substance use.

He spoke about how, when you cut back on pills, cocaine and weed, the hardest part is figuring out how to drink again. He admitted that he still blacks out occasionally, but “nothing too serious.”

That same year, he told Esquire about passing out on his bathroom floor after a concert from drugs and alcohol, while his son, who was around seven at the time, had to get his grandmother because something was wrong with his dad.

To add to Kid’s drug-related antics, in 2015, he publicly called for the legalization of marijuana, cocaine and heroin. In 2019, a video of him going on a drunken tirade onstage at his Nashville bar went viral. He later said he has a big mouth and sometimes drinks too much.

And during a 2024 Rolling Stone interview, the reporter interviewing him noted that Kid was drinking constantly throughout the conversation, swapping from wine to whiskey cocktails, and at one point, he even grabbed a handgun from behind his chair and brandished it mid-sentence.

With all this in mind, Dr. Gizem Seymenoglu explained how such substances and drug abuse on the body can show up in the user’s appearance.

Speaking to the Mirror US, on behalf of Longevita, she began by pointing out how visible signs of aging can be influenced by multiple factors. Speaking on the rocker in particular, she began, ”One possible factor is lifestyle-related habits that, over time, can naturally accelerate the aging process. Irregular sleep, poor diet, and high sugar intake can promote glycation – a process where glucose interacts with collagen and weakens it – which can contribute to skin ageing.”

She added that sun exposure may also play a massive role, as there are some visible signs on his face. “Along with possible weight changes over time and genetic factors, these elements could influence how his skin has naturally changed over time,” Dr. Gizem added.

Dr. Gizem also believed that he had not undergone any significant cosmetic procedures. “Looking at his recent photos, there don’t appear to be any major cosmetic procedures,” she noticed.

“There are no clear signs of Botox or other treatments, and his overall appearance suggests he hasn’t undergone any noticeable interventions,” Dr. Gizem concluded.
