Keanu Reeves is known for his love of motorcycles, but his on-screen character John Wick loves his American muscle cars.

Two key brutes dominate the screen next to Baba Yaga throughout the film franchise. It all starts with a classic 1969 Mustang Mach 1 that gets stolen by a Russian mobster called Iosef Tarasov in John Wick, and from there his love for cars continues. When John Wick Chapter 4 hits the screen, the Boogeyman has settled on a later-model 1971 Plymouth Barracuda.

However, it’s the lesser-known mix in-between that we’re also interested in for this article, including the British luxury and lesser-known Lexus SUV. Without further ado, here are all of John Wick’s cars!

1. 2006 Lexus RX 400h

Film: John Wick

John Wicks’ car journey might start with a 1969 Mustang Mustang Mach 1, but the film series kicks off with a flashback to his short-lived retirement and this humble 2006 Lexus RX 400h. It’s nothing more than a glimpse at what a “normal” life might look like for the Boogeyman, but we’re sure a couple of American classics would be sitting alongside the Lexus SUV in the purpose-built garage.

  • Engine: 3.3-litre V6 hybrid with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive
  • Power: 268 hp and 212 lb-ft of torque, combined
  • Historical significance: One of the first luxury hybrid SUVs that set the stage for modern hybrids
  • Significance in John Wick: Seen in John Wick’s garage and representing his quieter life

2. 1969 Mustang Mustang Mach 1

Film: John Wick

The 1969 Mustang Mustang Mach 1 is the most recognisable car in the franchise’s history, and it’s the car that first comes to mind when you think of John Wick’s cars. Despite being dressed up as one, this is not a one-of-1,359 Mustang Boss 429. How do we know? Well, the same car reappeared in the spinoff series The Continental: From the World of John Wick where Winston drives the same 1969 Mustang Mach 1 and confirms it’s a Mach 1. We won’t give too many spoilers about how the car is used in the movie, but let’s just say that he’s not very happy about a Russian gangster killing his dog and stealing the car.

You would know this by now, but the Ford Mustang is one of the most famous cars in film history. It’s been used in the likes of Goldfinger (1964), Bullitt (1968), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), and Need for Speed (2014) before it was used in John Wick (2014).

  • Engine: 428 Cobra Jet V8, though some models featured a 351 Windsor or 390 V8
  • Power: 335 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque with a functional shaker hood scoop
  • Historical significance: Part of Ford’s golden era of muscle cars
  • Significance in John Wick: His most prized possession, stolen by Iosef Tarasov, ignites the conflict

3. 2011 Dodge Charger SXT

Film: John Wick

There’s nothing particularly special about John Wick’s Dodge Charger SXT and its likely that the producers only selected this car for its menacing looks. Many have suggested that it’s the choice for Wick because Steve McQueen’s Bullitt was also pursued through the streets of San Francisco by two hitmen in a similarly unmarked black Dodge Charger, but that’s unlikely. It’s more probable that the Charger was chosen because it has four doors, and that makes it easier for the film crew to mount cameras. The slower V6-powered SXT model was likely chosen over the 5.7-litre HEMI V8-powered R/T model because it’s cheaper, and the crew took most of the badges off anyway.

  • Engine: 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, commonly found in Chrysler vehicles
  • Power: 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission
  • Historical significance: Marked the return of Dodge’s full-size performance sedan
  • Significance in John Wick: Used in high-speed chase scenes, demonstrating John’s driving skills

4. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396

Film: John Wick: Chapter 2

We don’t want to spoil too much, but by the time John Wick Chapter 2 rolls around, he still hasn’t got his Mustang Mach 1 back from the bad guys. Fighting ensues in the opening scene and the poor ‘Stang is a write-off. He chooses to replace his beloved Mustang with this beautiful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396, and it’s far from a bad choice. It was one of the most powerful muscle cars of the 1970s with 396 cu in (6.5-litre) Big Block V8 that produced around 350 hp. Wick would rarely use the Chevelle in the movie, but it stands out as one of the coolest vehicles used in the franchise. Oh, and that’s not black, but a subtle dark green.

  • Engine: 396 cu in (6.5-litre) Big Block V8, available in 350 hp or 375 hp variants
  • Power: 375 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque in the highest-performance version
  • Historical significance: One of the most powerful muscle cars of the 1970s
  • Significance in John Wick: Driven by John Wick in the film’s opening sequence

5. 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost (Series II)

Film: John Wick: Chapter 2

While Wick prefers his classics, the Rolls-Royce Ghost (Series II) might be the most suitable vehicle for a man of his stature. This Roller is barely used in the film, and we don’t see it until the very end of the movie.

  • Engine: 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12
  • Power: 563 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque
  • Historical significance: Refinement of the original Rolls-Royce Ghost (2010-2014)
  • Significance in John Wick: Symbolising wealth and restraint in one of the final scenes

6. 1995 Land Rover Range Rover 2.5 DSE (Series II)

Film: John Wick: Chapter 3

John Wick is stuck in the desert with Halle Berry and a 1995 Range Rover, it could be worse. The Rover is a beast of an off-roader, and this was the first model to introduce an advanced air suspension. While it doesn’t matter so much in movies, this system was quite temperamental in reality so if you’re thinking of picking one of these up and channelling your inner Wick, we hope you have deep enough pockets to fix it should something go wrong.

  • Engine: 2.5-litre BMW-sourced 6-cylinder turbo diesel
  • Power: 136 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque
  • Historical significance: This generation introduced advanced air suspension
  • Significance in John Wick: Used in the desert symbolizing elite status with rugged capability

7. 1971 Plymouth Barracuda

Film: John Wick: Chapter 4

The third and final muscle car that John Wick gets behind the wheel of is this 1971 Plymouth Barracuda. The poor ‘Cuda is subject to the typical rath of the Boogeyman, and there’s not much left besides the body of the vehicle by the time the movie is finished. It’s hard to tell what’s hiding under the bonnet of this car, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something of the HEMI variety.

  • Engine: 426 HEMI V8
  • Power: 425 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque
  • Historical significance: One of the most sought-after classic muscle cars
  • Significance in John Wick: Driven by John Wick in one of the film’s key action sequences

It’s been more than 16 months since Lionsgate confirmed a ‘John Wick 5’ is in early development, but we haven’t heard much since. What John Wick will be driving in that movie remains a secret, but he doesn’t have many American muscle cars left. Our money is on a Chevrolet Camaro or AMC Javelin!
