The presence of a shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night was utterly terrifying for those who were there. The alleged gunman, Cole Allen, 31, did not get close to President Donald Trump or the other VIP guests at the event. In fact, Allen did not actually set foot in the ballroom. However, he put a huge and understandable scare into many of the people gathered at the Washington Hilton.
Serious concerns were raised about Trump’s safety and security when he attends occasions outside the White House. And it made some of his vocal detractors dial down the heated war of words. In fact, iconic rocker Bruce Springsteen, who has been in an ongoing feud with Trump, pulled back on his blazing rhetoric to offer a prayer for the president.
Springsteen Spoke Fervently at His Concert on Sunday
The Boss talked about the bitterness roiling the nation at his concert at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on April 26. He apparently feels that the level of rage has exceeded reasonable limits. Springsteen urgently called for an end to political violence.
Springsteen shared, “We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas, we pray for their safe return. We also send out a prayer of thanks that our president, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured at last night’s incident at the [White House] press correspondents’ dinner.”
Furthermore, the impassioned “Jungleland” singer said, “We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs. But there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States.”
The Iconic Singer Has Not Previously Hidden His Dislike of Trump
Bruce Springsteen has been bluntly critical of the president. Per Fox News Digital, he previously “described the administration as ‘corrupt, incompetent, racist, reckless and treasonous’ and has dubbed Trump as a ‘president who can’t handle the truth.’”
In fact, the softening of Bruce Springsteen;s language about Donald Trump is significant when put in the context of his earlier comments. Maybe he and the president will now call a truce in their fierce quarrel.
