Morgan Wallen Throws Shade at CMAs: “It Takes a Lot More Than Award Show To Get Me Out to Broadway”

Morgan Wallen Reveals His Exact Process of Writing Songs (Watch)

We all know how Morgan Wallen feels about award shows, and if we didn’t, this weekend the singer made it abundantly clear with this comment.

“Last award show I went to, we came home empty-handed. And this one, I don’t have enough hands for them all,” said Morgan Wallen of his losses at the 2023 CMAs. Wallen had been snubbed previously and went on to receive multiple awards at the Billboard Music Awards that year. He’s earned a reputation for occasionally skipping award shows and has been notably banned from attending in years past. As if his stance wasn’t clear, at the Ryman Auditorium this week, Wallen had a few more things to say about it.

Before joining Ella Langley to sing a cover of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up,” Wallen shared his thoughts. “It takes a lot more than an awards show to get me out to Broadway these days, I’ll tell you that.” Langley had mentioned that she’d been trying for “two tours” to get Wallen to sing the cover onstage with her. Funnily enough, the show took place about a week and a half before the CMA awards, which we know Wallen failed to attend last year.

Wallen Nominated Alongside Wilson, Langley, and Moroney

This year at the CMAs, Morgan Wallen is nominated for three categories, including the prestigious Entertainer of the Year title. He took home the title last year, even though he wasn’t at the show to receive it. In his song, “I’m A Little Crazy”, Wallen sings some lyrics that fans think are in reference to his stance on awards shows. He addressed one line in particular, “I’m a coyote in a field of wolves.”

In an interview, Wallen shared, “There have been times in my life where I didn’t feel welcome. And to me, that line means, ‘Hey, I know I wasn’t invited, but I’m still eatin’ and I’m still fed.’”

At this year’s CMAs, other top-nominated artists include Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, and Lainey Wilson, who’s also hosting the award show this year. Wilson shared with People, “I’m humbled that CMA has trusted me with this role, and I can’t wait to love on this genre that has given me so much.”

Country music fans can watch “Country Music’s Biggest Night” live on ABC at 8 pm Eastern Time. However, we can’t guarantee that the “I’m The Problem” singer will be making an appearance.
