Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, continues to solidify his position as the richest person in history as his fortune increased by approximately $500 billion in the past year.

According to Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s billionaires published on March 10th, Musk ‘s net worth is currently estimated at $839 billion, the highest ever recorded for an individual. This is also the second consecutive year he has topped the ranking.

This breakthrough is largely due to the strong growth of Tesla and SpaceX – the space company expected to go public in 2026. Billionaire Musk also became the first person to surpass the $800 billion mark and is believed to be nearing the title of the world’s first trillionaire, according to AFP.

Musk’s wealth surge comes after a turbulent 2025 for Tesla. The electric car company’s stock plummeted due to consumer boycotts related to Musk’s political stance. However, Tesla shares rebounded strongly in the second half of 2025 after he left his role in the administration of US President Donald Trump. The Forbes list is based on valuations as of March 1, 2026.

Some analysts suggest that Tesla’s growth expectations are further fueled by advances in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology.

However, David Kirsch, an expert at the University of Maryland (USA), notes that estimates of billionaire Musk’s net worth are largely based on stock values and are therefore highly speculative. “If calculated based on actual net worth, the figure might only be a third, but it would still far exceed the rest,” he said.

According to Forbes , Musk’s net worth is currently more than three times that of the next highest earners on the list. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin rank second and third, with $257 billion and $237 billion respectively. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is fourth with $224 billion, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is fifth with $222 billion.

In total, this year’s list includes 3,428 billionaires, an increase of more than 400 compared to 2025, with a total net worth reaching a record $20.1 trillion, largely thanks to the booming stock market and the wave of investment in artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump ranks 645th on the list with an estimated net worth of $6.5 billion, an increase of $1.4 billion compared to 2025. Forbes notes that his second presidential term has so far brought significant benefits to the Trump family’s business ventures.
