Scottie Scheffler is better than Tiger Woods in one key area, says major winner

Despite 'silly' comparisons, Scottie Scheffler emulates Tiger Woods' unmatched mindset - PGA TOUR

Scottie Scheffler has established himself as one of the all-time greats in the game in 2025, bringing himself one major away from the career grand slam.

Comparisons between Scheffler and Woods have been repeatedly dismissed by the world number one, even after his astounding season. He won two majors to bring himself a U.S. Open away from the career grand slam, and no one has come close to matching his level.

Scottie Scheffler’s consistency from week to week allows him to be in contention at nearly every event. Even if he doesn’t win, he’s lurking. 1997 Open Championship winner Justin Leonard explained the key to his success is something that he is better at than anyone else in the history of the sport.

Justin Leonard reveals what Scottie Scheffler does better than anyone in history

What is fascinating about Scheffler is his unconventional swing. The “Scottie Shuffle” sees the four-time major winner roll onto his left ankle during his follow-through, leaving fans to wonder how he is able to hit the ball with such remarkable consistency when sliding his feet.

Leonard says that Scheffler has such a natural connection with his hand position that he is able to control his swing, and the shuffle is a by-product of how well he moves his hips through impact.

Speaking on The Favorite Chamblee podcast, he explained, “Scottie has maybe the best instincts for connecting his brain with his hands of anyone I’ve ever seen.

“You look at the footwork, and it can be distracting, but he does so many good things through impact. That clubface is so square for so long because of the way he moves his hips and lowers his body.

“It’s like it could never get very far off. And it hasn’t for four years now.”

World number one Scheffler has a more natural feel than even the greatest of all time, Woods. That level of sheer talent leaves us all to question what could ever stop his dominance.

Boredom is the only thing that can stop Scottie Scheffler, says Justin Leonard

The competition on the PGA Tour cannot compete with Scheffler week to week. Even the likes of Rory McIlroy, who just enjoyed one of the greatest seasons of his career by winning the Masters, simply can’t match his consistency.

Especially now some of the greats in golf, such as Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, have moved to the LIV Golf tour, Leonard speculated whether pure boredom of winning is the only thing that will stop Scheffler’s run.

He said, “I think until he gets tired of beating everybody. It gets boring for him, maybe at some point.”

Scheffler doesn’t like the Woods comparisons. Sorry, Scottie, we just can’t help it! We haven’t seen anything like this since the early 2000s when it was Woods vs the field, and Leonard doesn’t want to think about how it will end. He just wants to enjoy it.

He continued, “Let’s enjoy it while we’re here in the middle of it, because we thought these periods in golf might be over for a long time after watching Tiger Woods for so long.

“Now here we are with a dominance that we haven’t seen since him.”

He has significant motivation to perform in September. Scheffler suffered a record-breaking defeat in the 2023 Ryder Cup and hopes to avenge that loss in New York this time around. There’s no chance we’ll see a bored Scheffler at Bethpage Black.
