Amy Winehouse’s last night of booze: Singer partied wildly days before death
AMY Winehouse went on a vodka-fuelled bender days before her death – boozing at a gig before hitting a late-night party.
AMY Winehouse went on a vodka-fuelled bender days before her death – boozing at a gig before hitting a late-night party.
The Back to Black singer was first spotted necking shots at the Roundhouse theatre after dramatically falling off the wagon following three weeks of abstinence.
It was widely believed she called it a night after her impromptu performance with goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, 15, at the venue in Camden, North London, on the Wednesday before her death.
But she then partied well into the early hours at a second do nearby where she continued her wild behaviour.
A source said: “She didn’t want the night to stop. She fell off the wagon and then some more.
“She went off to a second bash at another house around midnight. Her behaviour is erratic at the best of times but she seemed on a real mission.”
One friend claimed she hit the town upset because she could not do more to support best mate Tyler James’s singing career and that this had left her feeling depressed.
They said: “She wanted to use her influence to try to open some more doors but she felt she had failed in that respect. It upset her a great deal as she was a really loyal friend to him.”
But another source close to Amy insisted she was happy during the last week of her life and dismissed claims there was any upset related to Tyler.
Her dad Mitch, 60, talked at her funeral of her battle with the booze – but said she was conquering her demons.
He said: “She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence.
“She said, ‘Dad I’ve had enough of drinking, I can’t stand the look on your and the family’s faces anymore’.
“She was not depressed. She saw Janis and Reg on Friday and was in good spirits. That night, she was in her room, playing drums and singing.” Meanwhile, it emerged yesterday that Winehouse fans have stolen four street signs that were intended to be gifts for the dead star’s bereaved parents.
Hundreds of tributes had been scrawled on the Camden Square posts by well-wishers. The local council intended to replace them and give the old ones to Mitch and her mother Janis.
But before they had a chance the thieves removed them from the square.
A fifth sign was saved from being stolen by an alert security guard watching the house. Fans have been carrying out an ongoing vigil in the square since the singer was found dead at her home on July 23 aged 27.
Town Hall chiefs added that they were looking at setting up a permanent memorial to the singer.
A spokesman sad: “Camden council is aware that there have been suggestions made as to what might be appropriate as fitting tributes to Amy Winehouse within the borough and that conversations are still ongoing.”
