The couple announced the decision this week in a joint Instagram post that included a handwritten letter signed by both of them.

In the note, they said they concluded they were “no longer suited to be married to one another.”

“As we move forward in our next chapter in life, we look forward to continuing to co-parent our 4 amazing children,” the letter read. “And we will definitely remain great friends. We look to our future with optimism, with love, and with great respect for one another.”

Kissel, 35, is a native of Canada who has scored several No. 1 hits on the Canadian Billboard charts.

Kissel released his first CD, “Keepin’ in Country,” at age 12. Some of his best-selling hits include “Drink About Me” and “Make a Life, Not a Living.” He has won and been nominated for dozens of music awards, including 23 Canadian Country Music Awards and three JUNO awards, according to his website.

In the post’s caption, Kissel said he and his wife have been quietly separated for about a year and a half and that their family is doing well.

Kissel and Cecilia were married in 2011 and have four children, aged 3 to 9, according to Country Now.
