“Caught in the Crossfire”: Kelsea Ballerini’s Ex-Husband Speaks Out, Slams Critics Who Targeted Him Over Hurting the Country Star

Online haters can be cruel and intrusive. They rarely hold back their most scathing, often unfounded opinions. That happens to celebrities a lot. Someone always gets made out to be a villain even if they are not. The famous are frequent targets for internet trolls who weigh on on their looks, relationships, and more. Morgan Evans, who was married to Kelsea Ballerini from 2017 to 2022, says now that he grappled with “all the stages of grief” after their breakup, plus outsiders’ mean-spirited comments. Evans was a guest on TheBobbyCast with Bobby Bones on Tuesday, March 3. He spoke movingly about what he endured from online critics following his split from the country music star.

Evans Said the Split With Ballerini Was Painful

When Evans discussed the divorce, he almost likened the fallout to what you suffer after a death. “You go through all the stages of grief with it, right? Like, ‘Oh my God,’ and then you get kind of angry. Dealing with an online kind of vitriol is almost a skill you have to learn, or some techniques you have to learn for that.”

Three years ago, Kelsea Ballerini spoke out about the breakup with Evans. He reacted when he talked to Bobby Bones. “I didn’t come to this realization quickly or immediately but in my case, it didn’t feel like it necessarily had a lot to do with me. I think maybe I was presented or made out to be or became an archetype for any guy that had done any woman wrong during that period of time. And some of the stuff was just like, ‘What is this? That didn’t even make sense.’”

He Appreciated Bones’ Advice at the Time

Morgan Evans said that he valued the wise counsel Bones offered him at the time of the divorce. It was pretty much clap back or stay quietly stealthy. “You said, ‘There’s only two ways you can deal with this. You need to go and say everything as loudly as you can and be as honest as you can, or you just need to go away, don’t say anything, and live your best life.’”

The Singer Explained Why He Did the Interview

Evans went public on Substack about why he wanted to air his feelings and thoughts to Bobby Bones. He admits that he took some hard knocks from people because of the unfortunate goings-on in his private life.

Evans wrote, It’s about my divorce. Of course it is. That’s not why I did the interview, and it’s definitely not what we talked about the whole time. I have an album coming out March 20th. Eleven songs written over the last three years of my life. Those three years were a wild ride, parts of it public, most of it personal. The public side hit WWE levels. I stepped out of the ring.”

He added, “But as I stepped back into press for this record, I could feel the elephant in the room. If I didn’t acknowledge it, every conversation would just dance around it. So I did. It’s part of my story. And it shaped a part of this record. The teaser is just a small part of a genuine, wide-ranging conversation Bobby and I had about life and music.
