Zayn Malik rushed to hospital as he cancels public appearances for album release

Former One Direction star Zayn Malik was rushed to hospital and shared a health update on social media, thanking fans and medical staff including a cardiologist for their support

Zayn Malik was hospitalized

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik disclosed he is devastated following an emergency hospital admission.

The artist posted a health update on social media, including a photograph of himself in hospital connected to medical equipment. While stopping short of disclosing his specific condition, Zayn, 33, wrote, “To my fans — Thank you to all of you for your love and support now and always-been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering. Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week.”

The One Direction star dropped a new solo album, KONNAKOL, on April 17, marking his fifth studio album. To support his album, Zayn had a variety of public appearance slated, including at Looney Tunes Records on Long Island and Rough Trade in New York City, where he was meant to host a record signing and meet and greet event. It comes after Gigi Hadid opened up about their former relationship.

“If you ordered online, your order will automatically be refunded by mid-next week. If you ordered in the store, just come into the store to get your refund!” advertised Looney Tunes Records, confirming the event was canceled. Rough Trade, as of writing, has not confirmed the event’s status for April 20.

“I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding. Thank you to the incredible hospital staff of Drs, nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who has helped along the way and continue to. You are all legends! Big big love xx z,” Zayn added in his statement.

Zayn shared the news with fans online

In response to the announcement, supporters rushed to social media to express their worry. One X user wrote, “Please keep him in your prayers.” Another commented, “Zayn Malik why are you thanking a cardiologist what happened to your heart omg.”

The news arrives days after he left admirers disappointed by pulling out of a special U.K. performance at the eleventh hour. The performer was scheduled for a one-off concert and Q&A session at Banquet Records in Kingston. However, he was compelled to axe the appearance just the evening before it was due to take place, reports the Mirror.

On Sunday, Banquet Records confirmed the cancelation. They stated the performance would be rearranged for a future date. Their social media statement read, “Gutted to say Monday’s ZAYN events are postponed due to illness — we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. We’ll be back to ticket holders later in the coming week. Thanks for your understanding and sorry again for the disappointment.”

Zayn himself also addressed fans directly, writing, “I’m sorry but unfortunately I am sick and I won’t be able to make it to the UK this week as planned. We’re already in the process of trying to reschedule the Banquet QandA, and will be sharing new dates soon.

“Working on getting each of your info as well to send you something. Thank you for understanding and continued love and support. Big love xx Zayn.”
