Billy Ray Cyrus Succeeds in Dismissing One of Country Music’s Craziest Lawsuits of 2025
Earlier this year, a woman sued Billy Ray Cyrus claiming that she, not Tish Cyrus, was the real birth mother of Miley Cyrus.

If you thought that the news of his daughter Miley getting engaged to Mazz Morando was the best thing to happen to Billy Ray Cyrus last week, then have we got a story for you.
A judge in Tennessee dismissed a lawsuit against the 64-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” singer on Dec. 5. It was filed by a woman claiming to be the biological mother of Miley Cyrus earlier this year.
If that last line caught your attention, then you’d better strap yourself in. Things only get more bizarre from there.
Tell Us More About This Lawsuit Against Billy Ray Cyrus
Jayme Lee, the woman who filed the suit earlier this year, alleges that she gave birth to the Hannah Montana star when she was just 12 years old.
She then entered what she describes as a “private adoption agreement” with Billy Ray and his ex-wife, Tish Cyrus. The couple divorced in 2022. According to Lee, as part of that agreement, she would have naming rights for Miley and serve as her nanny and piano teacher.
Lee alleges that the Cyrus family cut off all contact between her and Miley after the “adoption,” causing her “severe emotional distress.” She accused Billy Ray and Tish of fraud, misrepresentation, breach of contract, and interference with parental rights. She also wanted supervised DNA testing to prove maternity and paternity.
What Happened With the Lawsuit?
Billy Ray called the claims “false and absurd.” He filed a motion to dismiss the case last month.
Then, on Friday, a judge ruled in Billy Ray’s favor, dismissing the case with prejudice. This means Lee cannot refile the lawsuit. Cyrus is also entitled to recover from her any legal fees from the case.
With the lawsuit resolved, this marks a happy but bizarre end to a truly unusual year for Billy Ray.
Earlier this year, many people were concerned about the singer after seeing his disastrous performance at a presidential inauguration event. When he seemed to be escorted offstage, some, including family members, expressed concern for his well-being.
Then, Billy Ray and actress Elizabeth Hurley became a couple, which has become one of the most endearing country music storylines of 2025. Hurley’s son Damien called Billy Ray “one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met.”
Miley also wrote a song for her dad earlier this year titled “Secrets”, which many see as an indication that the estrangement between the father and daughter may have ended.
