“Boring Day for a Super Bowl”: NBA Star Kevin Durant Says Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show “Meant Nothing to Me”
When it came to Super Bowl LIX, there was a great deal for fans to discuss. Although highly favored, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves in deep water when the Philadelphia Eagles pushed far ahead of the reigning champions.
While fans continue to debate and break down the footage, the Super Bowl also caught the eye of many when Kendrick Lamar took over the Halftime Show. Already promising an event surrounded by storytelling, Lamar didn’t disappoint.
And he didn’t hold back when it came to his beef with Drake. But with millions tuning in, it appeared that not every viewer loved the show, including NBA star Kevin Durant—who admittedly may still be feeling a type of way that his Washington Commanders were eliminated in the championship round.
Just one day after the Super Bowl, reporter Dana Scott discussed the Halftime Show with Durant. While expecting the NBA player to praise the show, he did the complete opposite. “It meant nothing to me.” With Durant taking a strong stance on Lamar and his showcase, he didn’t stop there, adding, “No thoughts — I didn’t really pay attention to it to be honest. It was a little boring day for a Super Bowl. The game got out of hand. The Super Bowl Halftime Show—I didn’t pay attention to it. I kinda skimmed through the whole thing, to be honest.”
Kendrick Lamar Takes Aim At Drake
Although some fans of the Super Bowl criticized the Halftime Show, Durant’s statement come with a great deal of information. First, Durant just happened to be a Washington Commanders fan. While the Commanders didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, they had a chance until they met the Eagles in the NFC Championship. So, Durant might still be a little upset over the Eagles taking down his favorite team.
The plot thickens when one looks at Durant’s list of friends, that just happened to include Drake. A supporter of the rapper, it’s clear he wasn’t about to praise the show when Lamar spent a portion of the event taking shots at Drake.
While Durant wanted to skip the Halftime Show, more than 133 million fans tuned in to see what Lamar planned for the event. Thrilled over the massive amount of people who watched, Roc Nation shared on Instagram, “We’ve broken the record again! The most watched Apple Music Halftime show EVER, with 133.5 Million viewers.”
