The sequel to the original 2006 film – starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt – was confirmed for July 2024. Since then, it has been confirmed that many of the original stars will return, reprising their iconic roles in the glamorous yet rapidly changing world of high fashion journalism.

Filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 began on June 30th, and shortly after, the film’s stars – including Hathaway, Streep, and Tucci – were spotted on set, dressed as their iconic characters.

The original film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s book of the same name, tells the story of Andy Sachs (Hathaway), a recent college graduate aspiring to a career in journalism. Andy works as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), the editor-in-chief of *Runway*, a fictional high-end fashion magazine. Throughout the film, Andy struggles to meet the demands of his job while maintaining relationships with his boyfriend and colleagues, Emily (Blunt) and Nigel (Tucci).

The film ultimately grossed $326 million at the global box office and was warmly received during awards season, earning Streep her 14th Oscar nomination.

According to Variety, the sequel follows Priestly “as she navigates her career amidst the decline of traditional magazine publishing and confronts Blunt’s character, now a powerful executive at a luxury corporation with advertising money Priestly desperately needs.”

The film may also incorporate plot points from the sequel book, “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns,” released in 2013. The novel is set nearly a decade after the original film and tells the story of Andy and Emily becoming top editors at a magazine, when Miranda unexpectedly returns to Andy’s life.

Streep, Hathaway, Tucci, and Blunt will return for the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” scheduled to begin filming in June 2025.

The four main actors will join Kenneth Branagh, who will play Miranda’s husband, according to Deadline. In July 2025, Variety reported more new faces joining the cast, including Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, and Pauline Chalamet. Additionally, Caleb Hearon and Broadway stars Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora are also expected to appear in the film.

At the same time, Variety also reported that Tracie Thoms would return as Lily, Andie’s best friend, and Tibor Feldman would return as Irv Ravitz, Elias-Clark’s president.

Adrian Grenier was confirmed not to return for the sequel, and Patrick Brammall, Colin’s star in Accounts, was cast as Andy’s potential love interest in the new film, according to Entertainment Weekly in July 2025. At that time, the newspaper also reported that Rachel Bloom had joined the cast.

Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt had a small reunion on stage at the SAG Awards in February 2024 when they announced the winner of the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category.

As Streep began opening the envelope to announce the winner, Blunt recalled one of Streep’s iconic lines from the film, saying, “Take it slow. You know that makes me happy.”

Last month, Hathaway and Blunt reunited on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” and reminisced about making the film.

“We had a great time on that movie. I don’t know if either of us expected it to become so popular,” Blunt said. “People still talk about it to me every week. It’s going to be a life-changing movie for me.”

Production for The Devil Wears Prada 2 began on June 30 in New York City, and several actors have been spotted in their character costumes since then.

According to NBC New York, the film appears to be using the codename “Cerulean”—a nod to a memorable scene from the first film—on signs placed near filming locations.

What have the original cast members said about the sequel?

While the main cast has offered positive reviews of the original film’s production, they have expressed reservations about a sequel.

In April 2024, Hathaway told Extra that she “doesn’t have high hopes” for a sequel after telling E! News the previous month that she “didn’t think that story would ever be continued.”

Blunt has had mixed feelings between excitement and uncertainty about a sequel, having told PEOPLE magazine in April 2018 that it might not be the best idea.

“If everyone else is doing it, then I’m ready too,” she said. “I almost hope it doesn’t happen because I think sometimes when you do a sequel, things just diminish the original’s specialness.”

Four years later, in 2022, she reiterated her stance, sharing on The View that she “would be willing to do a sequel immediately just to be acting with those people again.”

Just weeks later, Hathaway appeared on The View and shared that she didn’t know if a sequel was possible because the film “was made in a different era.”

“Now everything is digital, and that film was about the idea of ​​producing a physical product. Things are very different now,” she said.

Although Hathaway hinted at the possibility of a remake with a new cast, “But they could reboot it,” she said. “They could find new people and do it. Do you think they would let us do that?”

Most recently, in an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in February 2024, Blunt stated that the cast was “fine” without a sequel. “Sometimes, things should be cherished and kept in their own world, and that’s perfectly fine,” she said.

Who will direct the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada”?

Wendy Finerman, the producer of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, joined the project alongside original director David Frankel.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for the 2006 film, was also confirmed to return.

On the 15th anniversary of the film’s release in 2021, Frankel and McKenna spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of a sequel, sharing that discussions on the matter were not yet complete at the time.

“We had a meeting and asked, ‘If there’s a sequel, what would we do?’ Maybe that’s a silly idea; we felt that, no, the story was already told,” Frankel said. “Lauren eventually wrote another book continuing the story 15 years later. We all came to the same conclusion, that simply following the characters wouldn’t be the same anymore.”

McKenna added that exploring the world of magazines in the digital age can be very interesting.

“The publishing and magazine industry has changed so much,” she said. “This is the era where [Andy] would bring a paper book to someone’s house every day so she could flip through it. Maybe they still do that, but I doubt it. Its golden age is over!”

Is there a trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2”?

The full trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was released in February 2026, revealing more about Andy’s return to the Runway. The footage includes a moment of Andy and Miranda reuniting, although Miranda doesn’t remember Andy – even though she’s one of the “Emily”.

Before the full trailer was released, the first teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released in November 2025. The teaser shows Miranda entering an elevator at the Runway office in red high heels, and Andy just in time to step in before the doors close.

“That took too long,” Miranda says, while Madonna’s “Vogue” plays in the background.
