Sad news today. Hector, the horse who played Geralt’s second Roach in Seasons 2 and 3 of The Witcher, has passed away at the age of 12.
Hector’s passing was announced by Laca Juhasz of Team Juhasz, the company that provided horses for the first seasons of The Witcher. All of Season 1 and parts of Seasons 2 and 3.

Hector is only 12 years old, which is quite young for a Friesian horse, as their lifespan can be up to 25-30 years, sometimes even more.
In terms of plot, in 2018, Henry Cavill and Hector had a crush on each other, but at 5 years old, Hector was still young enough to be filming for so many hours, so in Season 1, Geralt rode Zeus, a brown Roach, which Cavill also bonded with.
Meanwhile, Hector is filming another fantasy series called Shadow & Bone, where he played Ben Barnes’ horse in the first season, which was filmed in Hungary, just like the first season of The Witcher.

Later in Season 2 of The Witcher, the brown Roach was killed by a monster called Chernobog and at the end of the season, Geralt was given a black horse, played by Hector. He was also Roach throughout Season 3 and after filming was over, Hector was sent back to Hungary.
As Geralt said to Roach in Season 2: “Enjoy your last walk across the meadows and through the mist. Do not fear her, for she is your friend.
