Don Jon is the directorial debut of actor Joseph Gordon Levitt as the main character. He invited his close friend, actress Scarlett Johansson, to co-star with him. The new trailer of the movie has just been released on Youtube, revealing many new scenes, notably the scene where Scarlett’s character Barbarda catches Jon (Joseph Gordon Levitt) watching porn and having sex alone.
Belonging to the comedy genre, Don Jon is considered a modern version of Don Juan. The movie is about Jon, a promiscuous and sex-addicted guy. He lives quite freely and has affairs with many women, but still keeps a big secret. Everything changes when the beautiful girl Barbara Sugarman enters Jon’s life.
In addition to Scarlett Johansson in the female lead role, Joseph Gordon Levitt also mobilized four friends Anne Hathaway, Channing Tatum, Cuba Gooding Jr and Meagan Good to participate in his directorial debut as special guests.
When it premiered at the Sundance Independent Film Festival earlier this year, Don Jon received many positive reviews from critics. Entertainment Weekly editor Jess Cagle called it “one of the best films I’ve seen at film festivals”. “Funny, smart, touching” are also the compliments Jess gave Joseph in his debut film.
Don Jon began filming last summer in Los Angeles, after Scarlett finished promoting the blockbuster The Avengers. The film will also be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in September.
Joseph Gordon Levitt is scheduled to release the film in the US from September 27.
