It was the fifth time the club had won the competition, with their last triumph coming in 2024.

Reigan Heskey – the son of ex-England star Emile – netted a late winner to help City bounce back from last year’s agonising cup final defeat to Aston Villa.

But Reigan wasn’t the only legacy player on the scoresheet as Floyd put City ahead with an incredible free kick from 25 yards out.

Godwill Kukonki headed home the equaliser but City edged to victory at the club’s academy stadium.

There was a wholesome moment after the game as goalscorer Floyd and his brother Tyrone were pictured holding the trophy alongside their father.

Samba, who also played for QPR and Aston Villa, placed an arm around Floyd as the pair enjoyed their success.

Samba, now 42, played 185 times for Blackburn and captained the team as he spent seven seasons in the Premier League overall.

Midfielder Floyd and forward Tyrone both joined City at under-eight level before moving into the Under-18s in 2024.

Their cup win was watched by first team boss Pep Guardiola, who they hope will have cast an eye over their performances.

The Spaniard said after the game: “I want to congratulate [manager] Oliver Reiss, his staff, the players and everyone working in our Academy on winning the FA Youth Cup.

“Success in this competition is another example of how good this Club is at creating a winning mentality and producing top young players.

“I hope everyone in the Academy enjoys this achievement because it is a reward for all the hard work and commitment not just from this season, but years of hard work.”

Meanwhile, match-winner Heskey said he hoped to emulate his father after the game, which brought chaos as the podium collapsed following jubilant celebrations.

He said: “I’m very happy and he’s proud of me as well. He was celebrating like mad. I haven’t seen him yet.

“Sometimes he shows me videos, he was also a No 9 who scored lots of goals, so I’m trying to take a leaf out of his book.

“He’s my dad and such a well-known player that I’m always going to get questions about it and I’m fine with it.”
