Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale recently opened up about her bisexual identity and her partner’s supportive reaction to her coming out, in an interview with GO Magazine.

The discussion centered around her latest single “Like a Woman Can,” which she describes as exploring bisexual awakening and identity.

When asked about describing her latest single as “Venus asking Mars to meet her in the middle during a bisexual awakening” and what parts of bi identity were important to capture, Hale provided an in-depth response about her personal experience.

“I was channeling how lucky I am to be in a relationship with a man who understands me and lets me live my truth,” Hale said. “I was also thinking of so many of the young women and men who I know that are having a hard time having the ‘by the way, I’m bi’ conversation with the person they love. It’s a complicated fire that requires constant conversation and trust to feed it.”

She elaborated on the complexities of navigating bisexual identity within relationships.

“This includes hard talks about jealous feelings, creating boundaries, and what you need to feel loved by one another,” she continued. “Every bi individual has their own spectrum. It is unique to them, their needs, their fantasies, and the lines they will or won’t cross. When I came out to my partner, I was worried about all the things that would change. Would he still look at me in the same way? Would he feel threatened? I felt like I needed to protect him from the crazy, beautiful, complicated mess that is ME.”

Hale shared how her fears were ultimately unfounded and how the experience strengthened their relationship.

“But what I learned is that he fell in love with me because of all the things I am and all the things I’m not,” she said. “And now we get to admire beautiful women together, turns out we have the same type. Ha! And being able to live as my truest self alongside the person I love is the greatest gift I can give to both me and also to him. I showed him that he was my safe space: I love him and trust him enough to show him every side of me and know that he will love me unconditionally. And that is the ultimate showing of love.”

This candid revelation comes during a particularly successful period for both Hale personally and Halestorm as a band, marking a significant milestone in her journey of authentic self-expression.

The timing of Hale’s openness about her bisexual identity coincides with Halestorm’s remarkable 2025, which has been one of their most successful years to date. Kerrang! reported that the band released their new album Everest amid a breakout year that included touring with Iron Maiden, headlining The O2, and playing the massive Back To The Beginning festival alongside Black Sabbath and Metallica.

Since publicly coming out as bisexual in 2022, Hale has noticed significant changes in her fanbase composition. GO Magazine noted that her audience has grown more visibly diverse. Women and LGBTQ+ fans are claiming space at shows and connecting with her authentic representation.

The band’s journey to this point has been decades in the making. Oreate AI documented that Halestorm was co-founded by Hale and her brother Arejay in 1997 as teenagers in Pennsylvania with dreams bigger than their small-town surroundings. The band has evolved through relentless touring and achieved major milestones, including their 2013 Grammy win.

Hale’s willingness to share her personal journey reflects her broader commitment to authenticity and connection with fans. Her openness about navigating bisexual identity within a committed relationship provides representation for many who face similar challenges. It demonstrates how honest communication and mutual respect can strengthen rather than threaten romantic partnerships.
