Liverpool’s Champions League campaign ended in disappointment as they were thoroughly outclassed by Paris Saint-Germain, who advanced to the semi-finals with a calm and efficient performance at Anfield. Holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, the French side displayed composure and discipline, absorbing Liverpool’s early pressure before striking at key moments to secure another 2-0 win and seal a convincing aggregate victory.
Ousmane Dembélé was the standout figure, delivering a decisive performance with his finishing. Liverpool started brightly, energized by the Anfield crowd and the hope of another famous European comeback. Despite their urgency, however, they struggled to create clear chances or seriously test PSG’s well-structured defense.
The decisive moment arrived in the 72nd minute when Dembélé broke through Liverpool’s backline and calmly fired a left-footed shot past Giorgi Mamardashvili. The goal effectively ended Liverpool’s hopes, and he later added a second in stoppage time with a simple finish to cap off an excellent display.

Under Arne Slot, Liverpool showed clear improvement from the first leg, with more organized pressing and sharper attacking movement. Alexander Isak was handed a rare start, while Mohamed Salah came on earlier than expected following an injury to Hugo Ekitiké.
Despite these changes, Liverpool were unable to breach PSG’s disciplined defense. Marquinhos stood out at the back, making key interventions to preserve his side’s control during periods of pressure.
PSG remained a constant threat, particularly in the first half, as both Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé tested Mamardashvili. Although Dembélé had earlier missed a one-on-one chance, he made amends with two well-taken goals.
A controversial moment arose when Alexis Mac Allister appeared to win a penalty after a challenge from Willian Pacho. Although referee Maurizio Mariani initially awarded it, the decision was overturned after a VAR review, halting Liverpool’s momentum at a crucial stage.
PSG quickly took advantage, with Kvaratskhelia setting up Dembélé for his first goal. Later, Bradley Barcola provided the assist for the second, underlining PSG’s clinical edge.
For Liverpool, the exit brings frustration but not humiliation. While there were clear signs of progress, their lack of finishing proved decisive. Substitutions like Cody Gakpo injected energy but failed to produce the breakthrough.
Liverpool must now refocus on the remainder of their season, with Champions League qualification still in doubt. Meanwhile, PSG move forward full of confidence, positioning themselves as strong contenders as they prepare to face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the next round.
