The two longtime friends and collaborators reportedly got into a “heated exchange” after the Academy Awards

Justin Bieber and Usher aren’t so close anymore.

The two were involved in an altercation during an Oscars after-party hosted by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, TMZ reports.

Usher reportedly approached Bieber at the party, held at West Hollywood’s storied Chateau Marmont, with “energy and anger,” and the two ended up getting into a “heated exchange.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to reps for Bieber and Usher, as well as Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Guests at the party, according to TMZ, included Justin’s wife Hailey Bieber, as well as Michael B. Jordan, who just landed an Oscars Best Actor win for his roles in Sinners, Oscar nominees Teyana Taylor and Timothee Chalamet, as well as Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, and Kris Jenner.

Usher and Bieber have a long-standing friendship and professional relationship that began in 2008, with Usher playing a pivotal role in mentoring and launching Bieber’s career. The duo have since collaborated on various projects throughout Bieber’s career, including on-stage reunions and a brief discussion regarding a potential appearance at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.

In a 2024 interview with Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club, Usher said he had a “brief conversation” with the “YUKON” singer about participating in his halftime show, but Bieber ultimately declined, possibly because he wanted to “tell a different story” at that point in his career.

“We’re going to do something else in the future, but no love lost or anything like that. I think that it’s a lot of pressure for the Super Bowl, obviously, for me to put together a show, so I reached out to everybody,” Usher said at the time.

“Justin wasn’t the only person I actually spoke to about doing the Super Bowl, but the moment was maybe for later.”

Bieber is set to headline Coachella this spring. Ahead of his festival performance, the singer has told fans to tune in to livestreaming service Twitch to watch the “Peaches” singer as he preps for the show, plus catch him in everyday moments of his life.

“This is our space for the next few months, so excited,” Bieber said, per Billboard. “I’m gonna be putting on a hell of a show for you guys at Coachella. I can’t wait. So getting ready, getting the gang together, get inspired.”

Bieber encouraged fans to tune in as he’ll be filming “pretty much every day.” He added, “It’s gonna be awesome.”
